one thing is for sure. Our youngsters need more match practice if they are to turn fulfill their so called "potential".

A very poor performance from what looked to be quite a strong side. Some have commented that there was not enough balance, but there was enough quality out there to do the job. The likes of Nani and Anderson should have used this game to show what they are capable of producing; but both had poor games.
SAF is certainly fuming at this result; losing 2-0 at home in front of 74,000 fans is unacceptable in anyone's book. Hopefully, the young players will learn from this experience.
It is perhaps a little early to bench mark Nani and Anderson, but I do hope we will not be comparing these two with the likes of Veron, Djemba Djemba (so good they named him twice!), Kleberson, and Forlan!
All in all a bad night at the office. This result does highlight the lack of depth in the squad though.

I'm gutted about last night, not because United are out of the competition, but because the younger players just lost their main chances of breaking through this season, and i feel some of them have only this season to break through before they're out.
They've mostly been built up as some of the finest young players United have had for years, 'better than Arsenal's' Fergie said. They've not been playing regular games this season, granted, but the set-up at United is supposedly geared towards being ready when the time comes.
Perhaps there are different things which didn't help, for one putting O'Shea as the most senior player, really not a fan of the guy, he plays ugly, scrappy football, he's not influencial on the pitch.
Not sure if the away fan allocation helped either.
Ferguson gives over 10,000 tickets to Coventry fans, if you do that for a cup game, your giving the other team a home game because the home fans don't usually turn up for cup games. You then get the piss taken out of you for the away fans being better, the atmosphere will swing massively in their favour. There is a reason nobody else does it, Fergie.

listening the game for all the first half we were the ones who had more occassions to take the lead but we went 1-0 down instead. I can't understand how is it possible create so much but at the end of the day losing against Coventry..Sure the team who played last night wasn't the first team...but if i was in the youngsters i would probably tried to remain more focus on the match trying to impress the boss playing well---cos if we conceded 2 goals that means we've had a lack of concentration---thats not good, now this guys lost a chance to play more football cos Carling cup gives this to the youngsters, and thats a shame cos the def need to play more.

We were crap, we had a strong enough team to win the game but Coventry had far more desire and it showed, they fully deserved the win.
To be fair Liverpool and Chelsea and a few other premiership teams fielded a couple of starting 11 players, Liverpool even rested their best striker to concentrate on the Carling cup! While we had no starting 11 players playing or even coming on as substitutes (putting Carrick and Brown behind Hargreaves and Neville when fit) Still the youth players and reserves should have played a lot better especially if they want to force their way into the first team more.
As for Dong we all know he was bought purely for marketing reasons and it shows, they might have well just got a Chinese guy off the street to play Dong is awful surely there are one or 2 Chinese players that would be decent enough to play against a Championship side that was using a lot of non first team players.

MANCHESTER UNITED defender Gerard Pique admitted last night's shock Carling Cup exit at home to Coventry was “horrible”.
The Red Devils were sent crashing out of the competition after the stunning loss at Old Trafford.
And Spanish ace Pique has revealed that Alex Ferguson's young side could not believe what was happening. He said: “Looking up at the scoreboard at the final whistle and seeing 2-0 was a horrible feeling, especially when you're up against a Championship side at Old Trafford.
“I thought we started the game well and had some good possession.
“But their first goal brought them alive. After the break we didn't feel good and when they scored the second it was a horrible feeling.
“We know we did a lot of things wrong, but you can always learn from these situations and hopefully we will grow as players.
“Some people will think we've missed our chance. We're all very disappointed. We gave everything we could on the pitch, but things just didn't go our way.”

Shite performance but I haven't given this game a second thought. The Carling Cup means about as much as the Community Shield. Fergie played the right team, certainly don't want to risk injury and tiring players out for games that actually mean something. Benitez has fucked about with his squad as usual and they've ended up drawing their last 2 Premiership games and last Champions League game. The younger players will get their chance when the inevitable injuries start building up.

Well if we put it into perspective, with the usual season ticket holders etc. in their right places, United fans were outsung at home against Sunderland in the league. Now if people are in random order for cup games, you get a lot of first timers, thats what cups are all about, so giving the opposition 10k tickets, you're giving their die hard fans tickets to come and sit together. Ahh whatever, the players should be good enough to win home or away, even when home is practically away.

It's your home ground and guests are welcome, but they should ALWAYS know who's home it is....people are going to allow Coventry supporters to out them, come on now they can piss off back to the midlands. ok, I'm done. ;D

The result does not mean much when you put it into prspective. Its the carling cup. How many times have Utd won since SAF has been in charge? Just goes to show what it means to him. That said it is pretty dissapointing when the so called fringe players put on the performance they did. I was working so missed the game, but surely we could have at least scored a goal. By the sounds of it Nani was off , but how did Anderson play. At least none of our first timers played and got injured, so that is good.

United fans should NEVER leave before the end or let the away fans outsing them! that's just wrong. u support the team regardless of the score. so many other fans could've gotten tickets instead, the ones who would've stood up for United. Terrible, just terrible... I don't know what was worse last night, the way we played, the score, or United supporters...

No offence, although you may not like the way United fans left early last night, but come on, if you've paid a decent amount of money to watch United, and you see a bunch of reserves playing awfully, losing at home to Coventry it's pretty hard not to leave early.
