^ Bento seems to be a good manager even though at 38 years of age and nearly no experience at all to start with, he really has some sense about football. he might become one of the bigger managers in a few years time. I hope so. In Portugal it is said that Paulo Bento belongs to a new wave of young managers with similar working philosophies, started by Mourinho, but hopefully with a easier temper. hehe. Paulo Bento was pulled from managing the youngsters to the main team and we can´t ask much more of him. The objective, as already said by the club President, is having the stability and work space in the same way that Sir Alex Ferguson has had in Manchester (exact words). And sorry for the offtopic. nice start, hehe. no worries mate, this is quite interesting thats the point. i mean Bento gave the young players the chance, and look what they have produced over the years. many great developed players. and i think if they just could hold onto a few star players they could become a great side.

I know we've already qualified, but think we should respect our opponents, which is a very strong side, a bit more than playing a reserve side. Don't think Gary would be thrilled about bein at left back. Not John's fav position either really.... Eagles on the wing and that midfield in general would leave us very vulnerable. We'd get trashed playin that side against a team like sporting. I'm all for givin the kids a chance, but losing 10-0 to Sportin would prolly do them more damage then good. Introduce a couple of youngsters and reserves at once, don't make up a team of it. Didn't work against South End, Didn't Work against Coventry, would completely and totally humiliate us against SPorting. Remember the United side at Stamford Bridge last season after the league was won? Keiren Lee Chris Eagles Dong Kuszczak O'Shea K.Richardson Fletcher Just some of the weakened lineup who played and drew 0-0 Don't get me wrong i agree with you, but Fergie has been known to do a stupid thing or 2 in his time, it paid off last season and this is the only opportunity United will get to field a weakened side in the Champions league for a while, because i don't fancy our kids going to Rome and coming out the same, do you? Sometimes a good result is more luck than judgement though. Like I said, I'm all for playing some of the kids, but it'd be better to go for a happy medium, playing kids in the league when we've already won it is one thing, but we still want to get first in the group, and it's only the first part of qualifying, and I'm worried about the effect it'll have on the kids if the get trashed. Never know with Sir Alex tho eh.

You are right on the spot. That is one of the main discussion subjects amongst Sporting fans. Currently almost half of the Portuguese National team has come from Sporting's Youth Academy. But we need to be realistic. Portugal was a weak economy and that reflects on the clubs. We can´t possibly hope to hold our best players, we can´t compete with the bigger European clubs. At least we get to see them "shine" on those clubs which obviously makes us proud. Another interesting point. Ronaldo really evolved a lot since he left Sporting. He already had the skills, off course, but he now shows incredible physical abilities. It could only be a coincidence but when we saw the same happening to Nani that made us wonder. What in god's name do you do to these guys to make them so much stronger and self confident? hehehe. Really. To tell you the truth, our consolation when we saw them leave, was that, not only they left to represent the biggest football club in the world, but it would also mean that they would really evolve and help the National team even further. ps: forgive me for my english.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Nemanja Vidic are both fit to face Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday night in United's penultimate Champions League Group F match.
The pair were key absentees in the 1-0 defeat to Bolton Wanderers at the weekend, but both trained with the rest of the squad at Carrington on Monday and Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed they are in contention for a starting berth against the Portuguese side.
"Vidic and Ronaldo are both fit," he said at his pre-match press conference. "They'll be in the squad for Tuesday night."
Sir Alex hinted that Portuguese stars Ronaldo and Nani should both start, while Darren Fletcher, John O'Shea and Tomasz Kuszczak are also likely to make the first eleven. But the Reds manager insisted he won't be making too many changes.
United have won all four matches in Group F so far and are assured a last 16 place. But Sir Alex will be keen to secure top spot and a seeded place in the knockout round draw. The Reds boss is also aware that Sporting can still qualify if they better AS Roma's result in Kyiv on Tuesday night and then beat the Ukrainians in their last game.
"The incentives to win are huge for us," said Sir Alex. "If we win we've won the group and we'll be seeded for the knockout stage. That's important. We've also got an important game against Liverpool straight after the Roma game.
"Beating Sporting would allow us to [rest players] against Roma. But, our next two results matter to Sporting and Roma, so we have to be fair to both teams and we will be determined to win on Tuesday."

First team start, plenty of youngsters on the bench. We don't want another farce of limping over the line in second place after major cock ups away from home. Maybe give Tomas Kuszack a start.

Agreed, I'd be gutted however if he plays a mixture tonight and wins, then the kids get trashed in Rome, because i can really see that happening, especially if Roma need to win. Don't think there are many better opportunity's to play a kids team in Europe than tonight, at home and safely through. He will probably opt for a mix in both games

Then I'm still pissed off about them being let into the competition again, the bastards. Van der Sar, Kuszczak, Brown, Simpson, Ferdinand, Evra, Vidic, Evans, O'Shea, Ronaldo, Carrick, Anderson, Fletcher, Hargreaves, Nani, Giggs, Saha, Tevez. is who our players is supposed to be chosen from tonite, not a lot of kiddies there really.

The Roma match wouldn't be my choice for letting the youngsters play, it's this one that would be the one I'd choose. However there's also the point of people wanting to see a somewhat strong side because most people won't want to travel just to see a reserve team. I expect there to be a mix of experienced and young players in the team.

I want eighteen points, how often do you see that done and it'd be a warning to the rest of Europe. I don't think we should field a team full of kiddies in either game, maybe two or three in each but not a team full and going away and getting hammered like against Fenerbache.

I don't care who we put out, we should be able to get the points here, Sporting are a good side but we're at OT and players like Fletcher Oshea have the expierence and then i we bring in Pique, Simpson, Eagles ect all have started to come on well recently and they have the talent to help us win the game.
It's definately important to win the group though with all the "big" teams all looking like they'll finish top.

Lisbon Game - New SEF banners - FEAR and Ticker Tomorrow nights game will see the debut of two new SEF banners. The MUFC - For EveryManc A Religion banner will be on the Stretford End, along with the re-make of an old favourite. Back by popular demand will be the City Ticker, set in between 31 and 32 years. As its a European Night, you are once agin encuraged to bring along your own flags and banners to add more colour to Old Trafford. 4 SEF members will wave the TIFO flags on the picth before the game. great
