The Telegraph says we've put in 15 million for Carrick now and it should be accepted. I want us to buy him but the price is starting to get out of hand, we shouldn't go any higher than this as we still need one more midfielder of similar pedigree.

There was no chance of us gettin him for 10 and Riqueleme for for 12 million Euros either. It seems as if 15 million will be enough to bring him to OT Hopefully #flex# The Telegraph says we've put in 15 million for Carrick now and it should be accepted. I thought similarly about Riquelme, bt some mentioned that he has a release clause of about £10mil or something.

Let this be the last Carrick related thread in this section, unless the move has been completed, as there have been way too many recently.
If Carrick wants to come (and you’d think he would) and we’ve offered £15 million, which is more than enough, I’m sorry Jol, but that loyal, he owes us crap won’t wash, that’s bound to make his decision up even more.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, as each day passes, the move is looking more inevitable.

It better not go to any more than 15 mill, thats getting really high, ffs you would think they would be happy seeing as they paid less than 3 mill for the guy, plus dont they need the money for their summer signings?

Thought some Spurs fans perspective might be interesting.
i can't help thinking that carrick doesn;t want to be at spurs. he prob saw us as a steping stone to man u, liverpool etc. he didn't come to spurs cause we r spurs he came cause we r in the prem. a unhappy player never plays well so if he wants to leave and we don;t let him next season we may find he has lost interest. lets hope not andyclark1882
Carrick is not commited to Spurs, he could have signed a new contract and he didnt, he has 2 years left on his contract and if Jol doesnt do the right thing and sell him he will lose him o a free, Carrick is as greedy as any other player which I didnt think he was that kind of player, sell him for £15m if they offer it, he is very overrated any way, im not saying hes not good but just very overrated. ScottDaYid
Sorry don't agree, Its just gutter press speculation that Carrick has refused to sign a new contract, I for one do not want Carrick to leave (unless he wants to) Tottenham must have committed players and I am sure that Carrick is committed, however if anyone is stupid enough to pay £15 miilion plus then I say let him go as for that money we could do better. Lets not believe the gutter press hype and then perhaps they will stop so much of the B.S. sidyid
who could replace him though? What was Zakora like yesterday? sirhc
How about we just pay him what he is worth!!! ihatescum
Zokora looked very good, a much better defensive midfielder than Carrick, he gets stuck in(vieira, keane type player) and he also likes to get forward and is rather skillful, if we could get £15m for Carrick and buy Zokora for £10m I would be over the moon. ScottDaYid

Carrick has never convinced me as a midfield holding player. He doesn't score and he doesn't tackle, but I have to admit he is a fantastic passer. Also his setpieces sucks and if he goes I will be glad that somebody else takes corners and freekicks for us. For a tall man I could never understand why he had to take corners because surely his height would have been more useful in the opposing penalty area than someone like JD for instance. I saw Zakora against the argies and he is exactly the type of terrier we need in the heart of our midfield. If the money is right (10mil), I say let fergie have carrick plus richardson ofcourse but please martin, dont be ruud and swop him with van nistlerooy, otherwise defoe will definitlely go. powerspur
Powerspur, Carrick takes corners because he is, as you say, a fantastic passer. hiano
Just read a report which says carrick would like to join manu. Jol should let him go, for the right price (20mil). give the spammers their 4(mil), leaving us with 16mil to buy his replacement (zakoro 8mil) and also to sort out our left flank (either just duff-8mil or both hatem ben arfa4mil and de allesandro4mil). powerspur
Or we could not sell Carrick because he is a superb holding midfielder and one of our best players (not to mention English) who helped us get into Europe last season for the first time in years. There is no use in selling him, we would have trouble replacing him with a player with the ability to adapt to the English game and a young squad so quickly. Eemton
I agree eemton bringin in a foreign player takes time to settle and i have my doubts about zokora whats saying he wont be another diao or diouf after 2002 WC sparkie10
He'll go if he wants to. He has no thought for anyone but himself. FEn_100
I think we are all missing the real point here - we cannot compete, however much we like to think so right now, with the likes of Chelsea, Man U, Liverpool and Arsenal. They have far more clout than us financially as well as on the park. We cannot ignore the fact that like any other club below the top four, the only we way can compete or survive is to bring on players or find quality players at a bargain and then sell them on at a premium. I agree that we should not be selling our best players if we want to compete but we have to be realistic, £15m for a player we bought for £2.75m two years ago is a fantastic bit of business. If Carrick (or any other player) wants to go there is nothing we can do other ensure we get the best deal for the club and to re-invest in new talent. Until we find a Glazier or an Abramiovic, I think many clubs envy what we have done over the last couple of years in terms of a transfer policy and we should be proud. If we had qualified for the CL the situation may have been different. arpant
It's all very well saying we must hold on to Carrick. But what if Carrick himself does not want to hold on to us? Do we want a repeat of the Scumbell situation in 2 years time and in the meantime put up with an unhappy player? MU's offered 10m. Jol's mentioned 20m. The scenario is set for a compromise of 15m. And, as arpant said, we should take it. Given the situation I began with, it would be irresponsible if we didn't. hiano
I don't rate Carrick. Midfield stroller who too often loses the ball with his casual attitude. £20m offer ?? I'd rip Fergies arm off. Not sure about Zokora either - didn't have a good game in WC. Who knows.. maybe i'm just too hard to please! The Tailor
If we get 20 mill. he can go as far as I'm concerned. He should show some loyalty though. BigYid
when has carrick said even once he wants to leave, or anything like that? until he says that he is still a yid and as far as im concerned still wants to be one. should be someone we hold on to, we need to strengthen, not weaken. elmo85
I think we are getting offered alot of money for him now, and we seriously need to weigh up the option of the cash and brining in some one huscarl
If we decide to sell carrick we may as well admit we are happy being just a top6-8 side. Carrick is not over rated and is one of the cornerstones of any success we wil have the the future. Carrick will prove to be world class. I personally do not beileve any money should tempt us to sell, we are not a small club and do not need to sell out best players. United are desperate for carrick but we are not desperate to sell buckers_07

Ha ha, oh they made me laugh those posts. They rave and bang on about Carrick like he’s a cure for cancer, yet as soon as it lets slip that we’re interested and he wants to join us, he’s suddenly crap at set pieces, can’t head the ball and doesn’t score, oh wait, and can’t defend. Some people just believe what they want to believe.

Carrick is better than Diarra. For £15m and wages of around £50k he is a much better option to Diarra who is reported to want £100k in wages a week plus we would have to pay £25m for his services. I know who I want!

The spurs fans are the only ones telling the truth, he is Average, 15 mill for utter crap, i cant believe it, I have watched players like vogel, mascarano, van bommel, i could go on and on who leave him standing, I think you really are kidding yourselves, we are man utd and its world class players we need, all our best signings like ruud rooney ferdinand hienze ronaldo van der sar are recognised quality, this player isn't and i am sorry just cause fergie thinks he is dosent make it right, his recent history with midfielders is shocking, not just bad, he has wasted millions on tossers like djemba, kleberson bellion miller smith. I cant tell you how pissed off i am about this, I was looking forward to seeing some quality in the midfield it looks as though poor scholesy will have to play with another tosser alongside him, someone not fit to lace his boots
