Rooney was world class, he isn't anymore. I'd argue against that. He looked like he could be a World Beater, then sacrificed himself to do all Ronnie's running, and regressed year on year from then.

Well, put it this way "world class" is probably a little difficult to classify linguistically, but he was miles better when Ronaldo was still here- his touch, finishing, everything has deteriorated since then.
So, to rephrase, he was very good, he isn't anymore.

Any potential line up we're posting has to include Rooney, lets not kid ourselves.

What a bench though. It's a shame Hansen has retired from MotD as he'd be falling off his seat with our 'strength and depth'.

De Gea Janko -- Evans -- Jones -- Shaw Carvalho Pearson --- --- Oxlade --- Kagawa --- Januzaj -Chamberlain--- --- --- --- --- Falcao Oh, no, sorry. That's my FM United XI. Ed inspired me to say to hell with realism and sign the Ox and Falcao.

Wayne Rooney comes in for a lot of criticism and I agree that his actions over the last 5 years has been disgusting for Manchester United. (Holding club to ransom twice) but surely people cant believe that Rooney is that bad, I think people opinions are clouded by the fact his is a bell end.
Van Persie for me is a world class finisher and no-one can take that away from him, put him in the position for scoring goals and he will provide but if them positions aren’t being presented to him then we are practically playing with 10 men. His overall footballing abilities are dreadful, he isn’t brilliant at holding the ball up. He isn’t brilliant and tracking down players. He isn’t brilliant at linking up play either.
The way we are going to play football is going to feed the players like Van Persie and Falcao, the one who has proven he is able to switch play link up players and do the dog work is Rooney.
Not disagreeing over the last 3 years particularly he has declined a lot! But he is till the man to link up play and for me it’s between RVP/Falcao the two players who are in the team for the same reason (ball in back of the net).
------------- De Gea ---------- - Rafeal - Jones - Rojo - Shaw -------Herrera - Blind ------- Rooney----- Mata ------ Di Maria ---------- Falcao --------------

Any potential line up we're posting has to include Rooney, lets not kid ourselves. This. Anyone who doesn't see what Rooney actually contributes to the team can't be watching our games. This would be my preferred line-up: Starting at the wings, GK doesn't even need to be mentioned. DDG is first, Lindegaard second and Amos third. For right-back I have chosen Valencia over Rafael, basically because Rafael isn't mature enough to be the right-back of a PL top team and Valencia does have a higher workrate, just as good defending abilities, better crosses and takes better decisions. He can sprint up and down the wing for a full 90 minutes. The same goes for Shaw when he's fit, he does have the stamina of a modern full-back that contributes offensively combined with good defending abilities and he'll also be able to bang in crosses at times. Replacements for these positions are of course Rafael to the right and Blind to the left. Saidy Janko(right) and Reece James(left) are promising youngsters who could get a few shots aswell. The point with the wingbacks is that I want them to help out our wingers because those would be challenging wingers trying to cut into the field and have a blast at goal. Di Maria to the right and Young to the left. They're both good at one-on-ones, just getting by your defender should make things dangerous, and they both have a good shot with a great curl for the far post. If they get locked on the wing and don't get anywhere they should have the option to either pass it back to the wingbacks or to send it deep down the sideline for the wingbacks to cross it in. There are good replacements at both positions with Januzaj able to fill in at either side, mainly the right in this tactic, and Jesse Lingard to the left. Jones and Rojo feels like a strong and solid pair in mid-defense. Jones is, in my eyes, the future leader of this team and has been great so far this season. Rojo is a bad-ass and won't let anyone get through without a massive fight, he'll give any strikers a tough time. The back-up's are decent with Smalling, Evans and Blackett fighting it out. Evans has burnt his bridges for me though, he seems to never develop into the top class defender we are waiting for him to be. Blackett looks promising but a bit unpolished and Smalling is great at times but also very injury prone. Will Keane is another back-up but he has failed to impress me so far. Looking at the central midfield I've chosen to put Rooney there because this is where I think he actually belongs considering his way to play and his abilities. If he is the true captain of this team he should accept to do what is best for the team and I believe this is it. We've seen him several times work as a box-to-box midfielder when he's actually been playing as #10. The best would be to place him at a CM position since he is down there to pick up balls and defend anyways. He is very all-round, has the stamina to run up and down for 90 minutes, has decent passing, both long and short, has a great launcher to fire off when opportunity shows up and can raise the tempo by driving the ball up the field. Next to him I've chosen to place Carrick for balance. Rooney needs someone next to him who is defensively balanced, plays simple and can handle the ball. If we need to score a goal we can easily sub in Herrera for a more attacking and direct approach as he has more speed and creativity to contribute with. If we on the other hand need a more defensive approach we can sub in Blind, either directly for Carrick or instead of Mata and put him in as CDM to have more of a fighter who is just there to win ball and pass it on. There are a lot of possible replacements for these positions. Except for Herrera and Blind who are already mentioned we have Cleverley, Anderson, Fellaini and Fletcher. Mata shall of course play as #10 and #10 only, nowhere else. He has loads of creativity to lash out and is good at finding space in the penalty area when the ball gets in there. This is the kind of player you need in any match who can lock up any defense on the right day with just a simple pass. Up front isn't actually much of a discussion, Falcao is a beast(although I have explained my skepticism for this transfer) and goes as number one right before RVP with James Wilson as the third option. And there we have it. The basics of the formation I would like to see us use on the pitch!

No Blind, Herrera, Adnan or RVP but Young LW? Delightful! CC as CM? Double delight

No Blind, Herrera, Adnan or RVP but Young LW? Delightful! CC as CM? Double delight Like I said; I placed Carrick next to Rooney for balance. He could easily be replaced depending on what kind of game we're up to. Young still has a lot to give, although not as a wingback. Januzaj could just aswell take that position from Young, it's even steven among those two. RVP is injury prone and isn't getting any younger, surely we have to consider Falcao as #1. I've made what I believe is a realistic and balanced tactic. I could have gone for a FIFA-eleven where all the big names are squeezed on to the field on positions that may not fit them properly. I reckon it's impossible to actually field them all and have a proper balance and get good results. We've all seen Real Madrid's Galacticos-editions fail now and then because they only consist of big names and star-players rather than tactically chosen players.

Only 2 things wrong with that lineup - Valencia and Young - bring in Rafa and Adnan and you've got some team there Pretty much everyone can see that Rooney is the perfect deep playmaker apart from Rooney himself
