Here is my line up for the season: With 3 centre backs and Jones going out to cover the right back, when ADM are to busy creating chanses up front

This is pretty much what my first instinct tells me. Whether its actually the strongest remains to be seen. A lot depends on who out of Rooney, Mata or even RvP can raise their game to give LvG selection problems against Di Maria and Falcao. Is Di Maria so dangerous an attacking mid we have to build around him? A more ideal situation is he can be super effective on the wing and leave us more balanced as a squad. Then theres whether LvG persists with the 5-3-2. I'm not sure thats likely, hes said he uses it when the players require it. Di Maria and Blind should be 2 'specialists' LvG wanted to make 4-3-3 more viable. Our defenders are struggling with the 3 man defence, albeit LvG would weather that storm to impose his philosophy if he saw fit. 4-3-3 would be better in the short term. Anything that keeps Young and Valencia at no more than the bench and give us Adnan. It'll be great to see him a year on but not the necessarily the main threat for teams to mark.

I freely admit to a current love affair for that attacking 'diamond' of two wingers, a striker, and attacking pivot, but anyone looking at that XI, can you genuinely suggest a team that would be stronger with any other players from our squad? Carrick involved, maybe?

4-4-2 Diamond. Blind can drop deeper to protect the back as Shaw and Rafa bomb down the wings for width. This could work too.

I would be kind of scared with Rooney in that position, first touch from Ol' Stone Toes could end up causing Shaggy to make a save
Definitely like the line up but with Mata in place of Rooney

Mata >>> Rooney - any position - even in goal

Looking forward when possible of seeing a Carrick - Herrera - Blind midfield pivot. Got a bit of steel, mobility, creativity and ball retention. Especially with a front 3 of say Di Maria - Falcao - Januzaj etc

Just sitting an thinking about the possibilities is excellent. I feel like we're gonna see passing that is reminiscent of Barca under Pep, and with Falcao up front, we'll have a striker with a nose for the net that is equal to little Leo's. (Every time I think of Falcao I get picture of him sitting there smiling and talking about staying at United for a long time to be part of making history)
I would imagine the entire club, to a man, is sky high and waiting for Sunday

The same formation and the same midfield, right back and keeper as last weekend. As for striker, probably Rooney - Falcao/RVP. Left back is probably Shaw. As for central defender, I can't judge them yet.
DDG Rafael - CB - CB - Shaw Herrera - Blind - Di Maria Mata Rooney - RVP/Falcao
I hope we can give Januzaj more minutes.
