This may sound stupid, but would anyone else feel bad about taking him?
It seems unethical to steal a youngster from another top club when they have put the effort into developing him, and we have only arrived on the scene after seeing him flourish in their first team.
To me that's worse than poaching 16 year olds because you notice potential. At least that requires good scouting. Pinching Goetze would be the sort of thing Madrid would do. They've produced him, he's their player and a credit to their academy and coaching staff, let them reap the rewards, at least for a few good years.

No way in hell is it worse than that when we poach 16 year olds. In Italy/Spain maybe some others, they can't offer them full time contracts till their 18, but we can and so avoid paying a fee. That seems way more harsh than stumping the necessary cash to prize away a player from a club. If the hype around the kid is largely correct then we'd probably have to bid £30mill to even turn their heads.

I think £20 odd million is fair enough for a guy who's not even in his twenties. What, we shouldn't ever buy established talent anymore because it's 'unethical'?

Didn't say established talent, I said young kids just breaking through at other big clubs.
Guess it's just me.

Imagine Gotze was Italian and not German, its some how better if we take him when he's 17 and pay a few hundred k compensation than paying them £30mill for a 19 year old? I wonder which scenario the owning team would prefer.

You make a good point. Both are unethical, but I think when teams create such a great young player they deserve to keep them at least for a few years.

As much as I would take him (from what I have seen he is quality) can't see it happening TBH. He was only saying a couple of weeks or so ago that he has no reason to leave; he is young, has his family around him, & dortmund aren't exactly a bad team they are going places.
Theres another youngster who I would also love to have but seems to have an equally mature head on his shoulders; Eriksen from ajax... shitty tried to buy him this summer & there has been a lot of rumours (more last summer) of him & loserpool or arsenal being interested. I'd be gutted if he did move in the future to a club in the premier league other than us.

Probably true but hopefully united still has some allure for players on the continent.
I see a couple of papers have run with a story linking us with him, including a German paper. Guess the media got bored of the back and forth sneijder nonsense and want something fresh for the last couple of weeks.

Never forget the semi-final second leg. Battered them but couldn't score away. Nightmare. They were pretty big during the 90's and are coming up again.

They've always been a big club. They were getting the highest attendances in Europe even when they were shit.
