Have you heard much of Maiden's new stuff? i havent mate Not saying you'd definitely like it, especially as I don't know what you're into, but you never know, it may endear you to them more. Here's some tracks from the last decade+ I like a lot if you want to check em out sometime: Brave New World (2000): Blood Brothers (2000): Dance Of Death (2003): Paschendale (2003): Different World (2006): The Reincarnation Of Benjamin Breeg (2006): Where The Wild Wind Blows (2010): ---- You may not like it, just that I'd say they've evolved a lot and are quite different nowadays, so it's good to hear their new stuff if you haven't.

cheers for the heads up, i'll listen to a few of those tonight. think i've heard dance of death, isn't that an album? yeah it is, i've just dug the dance of death album out from my cd stack. never really listened to this much when i got it, i preferred one or two of their earlier tracks. the obvious ones like the trooper and number of the beast

Yeah Dance of Death's an album. The above is the title track from it. Very good and unique.
They're more progressive now with longer songs and a lot of softer stuff. I like all their material but I think I've enjoyed their recent stuff most.
Not to everyone's tastes of course.

Indeed. I wouldn't give it to the Beatles, they were merely the 'first' and not the best. I don't deny their influence at all but I don't think their music aged at all well. Time and a place thing. Queen though, timeless music. Classic after classic. Freddie Mercury had more talent than the Beatles put togehter.

Respect for Maiden/Sabbath/Floyd/Led Zep But the one band that doesn't get much credit has to be Anathema for me. Again, Scousers. But can't really judge them based on that, can we? Some of the best music I've ever heard. Up there with my favourite ever bands.
Shout out to Porcupine Tree too. Steven Wilson is just unbelievably gifted.

I also quite like Anathema from what I've heard but don't know too much by them. Any recommended songs or albums?

Not a patch on Images and Words, Falling Into Infinity and A change of Seasons (The title track is one of my top 3 favourite songs) Black Clouds And Silver Linings was very disappointing. And the new videos - the less said the better!

I also love their new song "On The Backs Of Angels". I guess I enjoy their new heavier style. Also think Jordan Rudess improved them no end.

tommyred: I havent really heard Train of Thought and the only song I partially liked in Octavarium was These Walls. To each their own I guess. Anathema is just brilliant by the way. Here's just a random selection of their songs off the top of my head - There's many more where they came from. Albums I'd recommend - Judgment and A Natural Disaster.

Iron Maiden. Purely for Powerslave and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, the only two flawless albums in existence.

Anathema maybe Scouse, but they hate Liverpool. None of them have lived there for years.

Also add The Smiths and Joy Division to my list. These two bands influenced 98% of the bands I listen to now, and they're still amazing, better yet, both from 'Manchester'.
