Respect for Maiden/Sabbath/Floyd/Led Zep But the one band that doesn't get much credit has to be Anathema for me. Again, Scousers. But can't really judge them based on that, can we? Some of the best music I've ever heard. Up there with my favourite ever bands. Shout out to Porcupine Tree too. Steven Wilson is just unbelievably gifted. Anathema maybe Scouse, but they hate Liverpool. None of them have lived there for years. Just when I thought I couldn't love them any more! ;D

Iron Maiden. Purely for Powerslave and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, the only two flawless albums in existence. Nice to see some love for Seventh Son. Doesn't get talked about enough. Epic album.

Maiden or Sabbath. And yeah, Powerslave and Seventh Son are absolutely fantastic albums.

Rolling Stones or Beatles.
Exile on main street and the White album are classic albums.
Loved the Stone Roses. Pity they couldn't stay around for longer.

Most of my favourite bands are British anyway so it's a difficult choice for me. I don't think you get much better than the Beatles. I actually reckon their stuff has aged really well. Aside from the weirder stuff, they wrote perfect pop songs. Fucking pop-tastic.
Another band I love who have not yet been mentioned are Elbow. They've been consistently good for such a long time now. 5 immaculate, critically acclaimed albums. Lyrically, in my opinion, by far the best band of the last 15 years. Probably in danger of becoming far too recognised as "that band whose songs are in the background on Top Gear" though. Still brilliant.
Here's my curveball. The Verve. I know everyone thinks of them as the creators of sort of middle of the road shite like "Lucky Man" and "The Drugs Don't Work", but their back catalogue isn't frequently enough visited. All the early, really trippy songs are amazing musically and lyrically. They were a band who properly evolved album by album. Obviously they got too big for themselves and the singer became a massive dick in the end. Same old story. But The Verve were better than pretty much anything else this country produced in the 90's. I suggest if you haven't already heard them, go listen to the first 2 albums. Also Ashcroft is a United fan and was there on our famous night in '99. Need I say more?
Honourable mentions for the Smiths, Roses and James.

Personally, the Beatles. But could just be a sign that I'm getting old.

Dire Straits Thin Lizzy (They've had British members even though technically they're from the Republic - Also, Phil Lynott was born in England.)
Can't believe neither of these two have been mentioned already. Knopfler's a genius in everything to do with music. Lynott was unbelievably good.

Tough one. Our land has been riddled with some of the worlds greatest sounds. Some fantastic bands have already been mentioned. Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones for me.

Well you have all the classic bands like The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Cream, Fleetwood Mac etc...
But my all-time personal favourite would have to be Joy Division. Not saying they're the best, which perhaps goes against the point of the thread, but they're my favourite.
