one word: Bale
Next summer I think Redknapp takes the England job after the Euros and Bale considers leaving spurs, and I think that he should be our number 1 target.
People call him overrated and that he's had half a good season. Not me, he's a real quality player and looks very much a United player for me. Absolute mystery that we let spurs take him from Southampton. He needs to be playing at a top club, he knows it and spurs know it.
There is an issue with the number of wide players already at United but without naming names cos it's not relevant to this thread i see a high-profile departure next summer and a slight shuffle of the pack.

I'll judge him after this season, I don't think he's consistent enough.

The top end of his game is so blistering i think people do him a dis-service because they expect that sort of performance every week. It's not gonna happen. And then a lot of his game is overlooked. But he would improve at United and he's proved he's one for the big occasion.

I would like to see him here, him and Nani on the wings would be awesome (selling nani is a no-go for me ). But Levy won't let him for less than 40 million so I think it's never gonna happen...

Over rated - 1 assist last season in about 30 premier league matches, not what you look for in a winger. Not an area we need to strengthen either.

A lot will depend on the progression of our young midfielders this season. If they continue in this rich vein of form, I could see Carrick being sold. Berbatov....who knows really?
Here's a strange one for you.....Vidic and Evra. If Jones, Smalling and Evans continue improving, would Fergie sell Vidic. Remember he wants players with a resale value, and there's not much more time to cash in on Vidic. If we have an abundance of young quality CBs, does it make sense to keep hold of an ageing 25 million asset? As for Evra, I feel his form has been below-par for a while. Is it just form, or is it a more worrying decline

Remember he wants players with a resale value, and there's not much more time to cash in on Vidic. no chance of selling vida. club captain, our best defender, still relatively young. re-sale value not an issue evra is a victim of his own success because his standards were so good and he's under incredible scrutiny from his own. i think he's the best full-back ive seen in my time watching footie when he was in his late 20's, arguably the decline has started but he's still a cracking left back and last season was a difficult one for him off the back of the world cup. give him a chance this season

No chance of Vidic going for the above reasons listed above on also the fact RIo is what, 32 now and the injuries are really catching up. I also think this re-sale thing is a bit of a myth really. I know we say it\s factored in to potential trasnfers but when have we sold a player in his prime that Fergie hadn't fallen out with? Ronaldo apart i can't think of one. Maybe Stam?

Wasn't the Stam transfer because of the book release? In other words, I thought he did fall out with SAF.

Yeah. I think Fergie claimed that Stam had lost a yard of pace and the money was too good to turn down but most people assumed it was the book.

Didn't Fergie say somewhere that he regretted selling Stam back then? IMO he did, and won't repeat the same "mistake" again twice with Vidic - who has been nothing been a loyal servant and captain to United. Goalkeepers, central defenders and central midfielders tentatively can last into their 30's and late 30's playing at world class levels... I don't doubt that Vidic can continue to play at this level for us, and see out his career with us.
Although I'd think that he will be used in rotation with Jones / Smalling as the years roll on.
As for Evra, I think he might be in the decline (depends on this season). His role requires speed, and speed usually wears off with age along with the injuries. Of course saying that, he's still consider one of the best left backs in the World currently. On the future, I hope he continues to stays to mentor our da silva full backs and not just shipped off because of his eventual decline. Currently, I'd like to see more of rafael and fabio on both side of the full backs.

On Evra, a lot of his game is going forward, admittedly, but defensively he's top 2 in the world, so even if he doesn't race up the line as much in his later years, he will still be a top defender. Denis Irwin was never rapid, but he could rampage when he wanted to!
