um what about fabio to replace evra? even rafael could do the job on that side. lets not forget de laet will come back too. rio, vidic, jones, smalling, rafael, fabio, evra, evans. i think we are alright at the back. granted that next season rio may not be a starter, and who knows with evra. but i think we got the replacements in our squad already.

We're not alright at the back. People keep saying "how will we keep all the defenders happy when they are all fit?" That will probably happen about 5 times this season. The twins and Rio are terribly injury prone so this problem is always likely to occur, maybe not as drastically as this but to some extent.

A left back has to be a serious consideration; Evra is on the wane and Fabio is made of glass. A similar refreshing of the attacking options like we did with the defenders is ideal as well.

The only thing that pisses me off about Evra is he dont half get himself into some fantastic attacking positions but his final ball/decision making at times is poor, I like the idea of keeping Smalling at rightback too, He's defensively very good but still bombs down the wing & offers a threat at corners.

Are you saying you're not worried about Evra's form at all?
You'd have to be blind not to notice he hasn't been the same the last year or so.

i'm repeating myself now but i know he's not hitting the high notes he set 2 or 3 seasons back, but come on he was a fag papers width from flawless. his all round game and maybe athleticism was at its peak. the standards he set were so high that if he drops just a little short of them it's gonna be noticeable but he's still one of the best in the world, still easily in the top few per cent of full backs around. and he's 30 years old, he's hardly in the retirement zone

Agree that the twins' injury problems are a big worry for me too. Had games last season when Rafa came in at right back and I thought; he's gonna be the next Maicon, then he gets injured... so Fabio comes in and I think the same of him, and he gets injured.
Fucking infuriating, because when they had a consistent run of games they looked immense. But now that there's so much competition for that RB spot, with everyone fit I don't even know if they'll get back in the side. Think Smalling and Jones are both ahead of them in the pecking order right now.
Evra's not what he was a couple of years back, but he's still the best we've got at LB by a distance, so as long as he's fit he has to play.

We should sign Pato.

Not exactly short of forwards, and our 3 main ones are all young (Rooney 25-26, Chicharito 23 and Welbeck 20) so I don't see a need to spend big on another one. On top of that, I'd argue Pato is very overrated. He's never done much to particularly impress me. The fact that he's one of Brazil's best attacking players and seemingly an automatic choice for the national side shows how poor this Brazil team is compared to past teams in my opinion. They'd want well over £30m for him. Are you honestly saying you wouldn't rather see that kind of money spent elsewhere?

Fuck Pato! Go get Ross Barkley!

Barkley is the latest hot fad. Let's see how he does over the course of a season and then decide.
But yeah, him or Goetze. Or both.

Anyone seen much of Brek Shea? Plays in the MLS and is pretty decent by all accounts...naturally left sided...maybe a good backup on that side?

Andre Schurrle is tearing it up for Germany against Belgium right now. He's a shout.
