This season I've become more and more pissed off with him.
Constantly out of position, constantly giving the ball away being the main reasons and I can't understand why he isn't been started less.
Obviously Fabio has had his injury problems but we've got Zeki Fryers too coming through and Evra's poor form - down to his ageing, being a constant in the XI for so many years, complacency, I don't know but it's coming to a point now where I'm expecting him to give the ball away and expecting him to be out of position.
So many goals this season that we've conceded have been down to his faults. Sometimes I'll see him at centre back getting in their way or in midfield somewhere and when we're seeing this almost week in, week out it gets so frustrating.
He's been a fantastic player for us, was the best in the world for a while and maybe it's just the amount of games taking a toll on him, I don't know but I just don't think he should be a guaranteed started any more unless his form improves drastically.

Been always saying that his form had a drop, and maybe his ability too in the past season or two. Don't know where I read it before (I apologise for sounding like a broken record), but he did say he preferred to play on the wings. And I guess you can see that in some of his plays.
I don't know, in FM I probably wouldn't even do it, but honestly, I'd look at the option of pushing him into a wing position when we need to press up high. I reckon we need an extra left or right back in the summer as someone mentioned (sorry, to that someone or someones).
I also advocated Fabio and Rafael in the wings. Think they're more suited there than full back positions, and might thrive in that role. Saying that, I have in mind that (Evra, Fabio, Rafael) when played at the wings, can help press opposition higher up the pitch. It would be like having a new Park Ji-Sung-like-energy winger, but with the appropriate technical ability.
If all else fails, induct Evra into the coaching staff. I think the team would benefit from his chirpy presence. And he can do well to keep Pogba in check too. I don't think we should sell him (unless he wants to leave).

Evra to me, is now consumed by absent mindedness. And that sums him up at the moment....

A few years back, when wingers got the ball out there I wasn't worried, with the exception of Lennon, but these days you just know the cross is coming in. And often that means extra trouble because the centre back has moved out of position to cover the space left by Evra.

he seems like he doesnt want to close wingers down, on his pomp this guy was hands down the best leftback in the world, defender strongly and attacked with mean intent and pace, now he just wants to attack and not defend. we can forget him playing left wing, it will not happen, and as for the twins as much as it may work it wont happen either, they are young and hopefully will really learn the art of defending as if they do they already know how to attack, evera once had the fanatstic balance and thats what makes great fullbacks, having it and knowing when to do either one, above all else remember the job is defend first!

The only thing keeping Evra in the team is the armband, he has been a liability for the past 2 seasons, the amount of times he stands and admires wingers crossing the ball in infuriates me, that is if he has bothered his arse to get close enough to him to admire it.
What is needed?A huge kick up the arse, competition, dropped or given a holiday?Who knows but it needs to be sorted as he has dropped off remarkably in the past 2 seasons.

I like an awful lot about evra, because he does genuinely love being a united player but his form is worrying. He's lost that pace and gets beat by players who 3 years ago wouldnt of stood a chance, marking messi out of games to getting the run around by anyone with pace. He needs to adjust his game, he needs to get tighter now because he doesn't have that pace anymore. The slower you are the closer you need to get to avoid a one on one all the time.

Young in front of him helps a alot as well. Ashley gets through some yards defensively.

one element of his game that has always impressed and entertained me to the max that no-one can dispute he's still got is his improvisation. he'll scissor-kick the ball clear when he can't get a head to it and all sorts. he's hit overheads, flying headers that would make superman blush, backheels, i've seen him use it all bar the kitchen sink. he's spectacular at times
in his pomp he was the best full-back i've ever seen. he played total football. don't care if he's on the decline now, he's a legend and still among the top full-backs in the game.

Totally agree Jimbonda, its not often we get to see a player go downhill as it were, they are usually shipped out before long, so maybe SAF thinks Pat can turn it around.Good times for all concerned then.
As johnboy says he needs to adapt his game , get much tighter and be a lot more selective with his jaunts up-field.

Sorry Jim, I've grown to hate those bloody scissor kicks! See Rome 2009, 2nd Barca goal...

Though I agree, he was a smahing player in his prime. And Areba's point above is good. Normally a player is phased out by now if their form drops this badly. The worry is how hard really good left backs are to find.

serious question here: is the only reason Evra hasn't been dropped because he is the current captain? i honestly believe if our first choice captain (Vida) was fit SAF would have sat Mad Pat till he gets back form. there is also the problem that he has no real competition for his spot, but it is starting to stand out, his form, especially on the defending side of his play. wrote this in a different thread about a week ago. seems fitting here.
