I want Shaw , but know we will go in for Baines esp if he doesn't sign a new contract extension bit like kags lower valuation than normal. + Moyesie would be more comfortable with Baines in wouldn't he.
Would have been great had we got Coentrao but we didn't.

Buy Shaw, forget Baines. It'll be a shame to see Pat leave, but it if he wants to go and does it quietly/respectfully, then I doubt anyone will mind. Bang on Bestie !! Honestly I would not like to see Evra next season, but as you said he should go out respectfully as he has been a great servant to us.

Seriously, I like Baines but if we go back in for him it will say all the wrong things about Moyes.

Baines would offer a quick fix-CLASS-solution, for a good four years or so. He's the top left back in the league. If he doesn't sign a new deal perhaps we'll be able to get him for cheaper too, I'd not be opposed to that.
For the figures mentioned over the summer, however, I'd rather we get Shaw and, if not him, Coentrao. Shaw would need time, which I think atm Moyes can't afford with our precarious position in the league this year. He'll blood youngsters, but he's not earned the confidence or trust of many of the fans enough to further take risks defensively.
I actually think the Coentrao interest will likely be re-ignited, we went for him once, nothing has changed (and Everton still don't want to sell us Baines). I reckon he's pretty underrated, been a fan since the 2010 WC where he impressed me throughout. He's still only 25.

In the summer, Baines will only have a year lefty on his contract (expires 30.06.2015). If he signs a new deal then Coentrao is a cert.

Coentrao would be great especially since he was in tears after this summers move didnt happen

Here's hoping Greasy Bobby can get Baines to agree a new deal between now and January.

Coentrao is seriously under rated. But so far the news coming out of Everton is that Baines has declined to sign a new contract. Has to Shaw i don't buy this need time @jay - he has been really good so far and also shows enough to suggest he want fins himself out of depths at a club like ours.
The only reason i see for us going in for Baines atm is Moysie's familiarity and the Contract Situation. To me its not that Baines is bad, he is really good stats back him up , but Shaw is the future and Coentrao is altogether a different prospect. He has shown himself well in both La Liga and CL.
Personally 1. Coentrao , 2. Shaw , 3. Baines would be the choice . Also i don't want to hate another good player cos he plays for Pool , which is where Shaw may end up if we don't get him based on reports.

It makes sense now why we were so desperate to buy a good LB this summer. I assume Evra had made the club aware of his intentions a while ago.
It's the price vs his age that concerns me about a transfer for Baines. There's no doubting his quality. Whoever we buy, he has to be effective going forward because after Baines Evra is probably the best attacking left back in the league. Doesn't go the other way as well as he used to but there's no doubting his quality as an attacking entity.

Baines is superb but not for more than 12 million. He's a 29 year old (by then) full back, really shouldn't cost any mroe than that.
Shaw looks a great prospect but would be expensive. Southampton have money now, they have no pressure to sell.

No surprise Evra wants to move on, he must feel like shit having to endure a whole summer of United chasing Baines. Don't understand us going after Baines he's a good player but is he really worth the money Everton are looking for? I certainly don't think, he's 29 for god sake!
Evra hasn't been at his best the last couple of years, I thought he improved last season, can't really judge him on this season they've all been below par.
His character in the dressing room and desire to win will be sorely missed.
Moyes is probably forcing him out because he insists on going forward with the ball, stay in your own half Patrice and don't you dare try and score a goal!!!

What Evra has said makes it fully understandable that we chased Baines. If Evra told the club he wasn't signing a new deal then we need to replace him and could have spent this year ushering him gently out. There's no way someone like Paddy has said this to the media without telling the club months ago. Makes sense to me. I can't see his personal reasons having anything to do with us flirting with Baines this summer. He probably just fancies seeing out his last couple of years back in sunny Monaco.

Not convinced Shaw is ready to start week in week out for a club as big as United, still only 18. Coentrao for me

See that cross for Rooney's goal vs Poland?
That's why we're after Baines.

Yeah, the rumors of his missus wanting to go back started a year of 2 ago. In fairness you wouldn't deny him a move back to Monaco, the guys been incredible for us.
