Actually I thought the talk was Cole is having a bit of middling season. starting to lose his pace a bit I've heard some fans say. I cant say I watch much Chelsea though. Anyway if Evra's the best in the world then every other LB must be be pretty shite No dont get me wrong he's still a decent player, but he's no where near the level he was when unquestionably was best in the world. If anyone thinks he's still at that level... have you watched us play in the last 2 years? These days he's merely decent, gets caught out far to often and his positioning is terrible at times. He seems to do ok for 90% of the game then do something sloppy or stupid. I still want him here, but as I've said before, I think Heinze was doing as ok if not better when we signed Evra. With Fabio seeming a cert for loaning, i would be one of the least surprised to see a LB come in this summer.

The thing is, decent left backs are actually bloody hard to find. Contraceo)?) Madrid spent 20 odd million on him and he's decent, no better than that. Baines is better than Evra right now, but he'll be destroyed by Valencia again on Sunday. Cishoko look good for Porto but has been gash for Lyon by all accounts. It's a tricky position. In general full back play has changed a lot recently. Kyle Walker looks great going forward, not sure defensively. Glen Johnson. Scouse fans I know think he's great. He's an embarasment defending but he gets forward occasionally and that fools people. Sagna not so bad defensively but he's out of position a lot.
I think Blackett could be a good player for us there. Size, pace and a howitzer of a left peg. Worth promoting next year.

And look at what City have, with all the money in the world. Kolarov and Clichy. Above average and that's about it.

Glad to see the Blackett train gaining some momentum, really big fan of his.
EDIT: I like Kolarov by the way, seems like a pretty honest bloke considering he's at City, and a solid modern full-back, going forwards and back.

In essence it's a position where you'll never be the favorite with everyone. Be great defensively and people will say you offer little in attack. Be great going forward and people will highlight every mistake you make defensively, even more-so than more defensive LB's.
Sagna has impressed me this season, rock solid at time and he's got a great cross on him. Coentrao, for me, is a fantastic player and I was pretty sad to hear he went to Real as he was easilly the most exciting prospect at the world cup before he moved.
I'm firmly pro-Evra here, I reckon he's been over-critisized alot this season when he's provided some impetus going forward when no-one else would take initiative. He's made some mistakes, sure, but not enough to warrant the wheels falling off on his career shit that so often gets thrown around. Class is permanent and Evra has it in abundance.

yeah, well he's mainly deployed as a left back at RM, occasionally left sided midfielder. I think for Portugal too.

No, I didn't say that. I said it was bollocks to say Leighton Baines was the same level as Stephen Hunt. Baines has been consistently good for the last 5 seasons. Very Dennis Irwin sort of player; reliable for a 7 out of 10 and gives you a threat from set-pieces.
I'd rate Baines as second best left-back behind Evra (if we're saying Evra is best in the League).

Who is this guy No7 anyway?! Baines is playing better than Evra right now. Evra has really struggled this season, almost any Utd fan can see that, except you seemingly He has been superb in the past, and has put in some serious yards for Utd for the past 5 seasons. But this has been a poor, poor season.
Young has been a huge help to him lately which has lessened the problems down the left.

who am i ? whats that got to do with it all you need to know is i love UTD and been watching them way over half my life on earth im not saying this season has been evras best but better than ashly coles
poor poor season thats going way too far
you dont come to UTD and play every game in the PL and CL since 06/07 for no reason this is UTD not Everton baines would get ripped in the CL
who puts evra in at LB Sir Alex does if he was as bad as some make out he would be dropped by SAF he is not blind and definatly not stupid
would love to see baines play all them games in a UTD shirt and keep up that consistancy
in my opinion and as a da silva twins fan im really dissapointed fabio is going on loan to benfica esp after this time last season fabio was getting game time and looking good
but SAF clearly thinks evra is capable of holding the fort for a while now thats how good he is even when playing shit by our own high standards as UTD fans
not to say it would not be nice to see alba or cissoko try to challege him
would like to see who the successor to evra would be

So, your reasoning that this hasn't been a poor season by Evra's standard is what, exactly? He's played every game. That's it? Nothing to back it up, just that he wouldn't play all those games if he was poor? And what of Cole? He's been dreadful this year but still gets picked.
No one is saying he's a bad left back. He' still one of the best in England. But he was the best in the world bar none. He clearly isn't playing well, I'd say 99% of utd fans know that. You know better than them obviously. You also are the only one that didn't see (this is just off the top of my head) Liverpool's winner in the FA Cup, Chelsea's first goal in the 3 all and Bilbao's second in the game over there. If I was arsed i could dig up countless more but there isn't any point.
