Fuck, lost my job and trying to find a new one, really really bad. My country is shit, total utter shit. It's all about politics around here, no matter if you have 10 fucking degrees, multiple certificates to know how to do a job you're presented with there is always someone more favorable and less qualified but with good schemes to get the job. To get to the point, there were elections in my country and corrupted politicians won (who always preferred that they have their sons, daughters, cousins in positions they want), and after elections were over and winner announced it was only a matter of days before I got terminated. For no obvious reason at all. Fuck, can't even sue, I mean I can, but it wouldn't get me anywhere. Currently applicating for atleast 10 jobs, sent numerous CV's, and still no luck at all. Thought by having IT degree it would be easier and adept at working with jobs that requires administration and understanding law it would be easier. But in this shithole, if you're not son of some rich mother fucker who has good connections, you're fucking nobody. Sad to hear that mate. Your description gives me a hint that you stay in Bosnia?

Good friend of mine lost his job in Serbia over a year ago but ended up moving to Germany and got himself a job. He is doing well now and has just got married and the two of them are settling down well. Keep your chin up. In my time I have had to move (i.e Scotland/England and then England/Scotland) after being made redundant twice. I ended up in Scotland doing security work for 15 odd years then worked my way up as an Asst.Building Manager (in charge of security). Retired now with a nice pension. Always remember, there is light at the end of the tunnel if you have the willpower to look for it. Hang in there.

Eh, people lose jobs all the time. It's awful, I know, especially when it's not of your own doing. Just apply for everything, even if it's waiting tables or serving drinks in a bar, as the longer you're out of work the less employable you are, and the more it affects you mentally.

Anyone with those qualifications is welcome in Britain IMO - it's the million car washers we get I object to

I work in Hollywood as a feature film editor. I've worked on about 30 films, a few music videos, TV shows, and a documentary. The industry has drastically changed in the past 10 years, with reality TV, cheap editing software, a glut of kids working non-union, and in general poorer job prospects. There are also 63% fewer films being made around here than there were when I started. Wages have fallen through the floor because of this. I have a side business with a few friends we are trying to get up and running early next year, so if that works I will gladly say goodbye to editing once and for all.

Just seeing this thread and it's excellent! Nice to hear everyone's background and reading the support on here. Might need that soon myself. I started doing a PhD in Environmental Engineering(I'm not a tree hugger ) in August after getting my Bachelor's in Petroleum Engineering. If you know anything about either, you'd say that's a weird switch but I'm interested in doing work in both fields. I've spent most of my 22 years in school so no cool stories about where I've got to travel to or anything of that sort! Anyway, I was really excited at the diversity here especially with those in higher ed. How did you all get through it?!

If you do become famous you can still pop in here and mention this website too all.

I got my undergrad in Film Design and found fuck all looking for work for nearly a year. I decided to get my MBA, now I do the single most boring and unrewarding job on earth, I manage apartment buildings. Pays the bills, live in a nice area, so no major complaints, but it is an incredibly thankless job. Always looking and for those of you getting started, never stop looking. Your company is probably not as loyal to you as you would imagine. There is no need to be blindly loyal to them.

If a company can get someone to work for less than you they will - they will shit on loyalty every time Welcome to the 21st Century I'm thinking of sacking myself and replacing me with someone called Mujibur/Dragan/Dwayne
