my manager always told me if you feel contact then go down, and that was almost 10 years ago i think if theres contact it cant really be classed as a dive but it can be classed as making a meal of it/looking for a pen/free kick how ever if theres no contact like andy carroll the other week then thats a blatent dive its a dive, if you knock the ball one way naturally you will move in that direction young moved towards the defender instead. Clear sign of a dive. Its a shame he feels he has to do this. You just get a reputation for diving and referees will question everytime you fall over in the box and you will sooner or later get genuine fouls overlooked

There's a difference between a dive and exaggerating contact. Both are pretty reprehensible though.

Could have sworn he moved right, the same way he knocked the ball

Its a shame because we won well but you can beat this will get most of the tv time tonight.

yep i thought murphy went looking for it aswel The difference is that Carricks foot only slid alongside Murphys, the Villa defender's foot impeded Youngs. Plus the defender left his leg out till the last second.

Young's was a pen today, no doubt.
But it's still a concern that he dives so obviously even when there is legit contact. I mean it's easy to gain a reputation and not get legit pens because of it. It happened to Ronaldo.

What will happen is that Young will be cleaved in an important game and get nothing.

Its a shame because we won well but you can beat this will get most of the tv time tonight. You want him to what, change direction in mid-air? He was clearly turning to follow the path of the ball where he'd just kicked it. It looked a peno from the far end of the stadium when I saw it the first time, and it was still a pen when I saw all the replays last night once I got in. Ash didn't need the swan dive and the flailing left leg. But a defender can't plant his foot in the same place an attacker is putting his foot, he'll inevitably catch him and it's a foul. Last weeks was way more dubious than yesterday. The more I see the QPR one, the less I can say my 'Nudge at pace can knock a man over' argument holds up. Really very, very soft that one.

EDIT: God dammit, again wrong thread Anyways, he shouldn't do that, makes us look bad, 2 dives in 3 games, yes, there was contact, but not much of a contact, I'll be objective on this one and will say that that wasn't a pen.
