I've got to say, that was probably the most gripping episode of the show so far - fucking hell.

Been waiting for the internet implosion over the events of this episode.
The TV series was extra mean too. Robb Stark was actually barely main character in the book. I think only a PoV character briefly (if at all, its been a while). A lot that story was merely referenced from elsewhere.

It's pretty fantastic how George R. R. Martin has his characters portrayed though, as he's a major influence on the story progression in the show.
Crazy to think that there's still a huge chunk of the story-world that'll enter the fray, apparently (according to my flatty who's read all the books) there's still almost half the map's worth, parts that havent even been mentioned, of characters to add.

The dialog in the book doesn't grab me like the best books but he created a real world. Very clever.

Aye, i think it'll be interesting/tough to handle where the books go from here. The next 2 books were essentially 1 enormous book split as a lot of events happen concurrently. I thought it lacked a bit of pace at times. The TV show having some flexibility might be a win if they can trim down some stuff. Martin needs to crack on with the rest of the books though, their catching up.

I'm at a point where I'm being tempted to start reading the books, the problem is I don't actually have time to read and it could become a problem stretching over a couple of years, haha!
I read somewhere that he's always feared the series will catch up, they're even thinking of splitting one of the books into two seasons of the show whilst book 4 & 5 are essentially happening simultaneously in terms of the book's time-line so it'll be interesting to see what they do there.
What I like about GoT, compared to, say, Lord of the Rings, is the political undertones. It's not simply good vs evil, it's good (with so many variations) against itself, whilst being against evil, with all the family motivations thrown in too. Martin absolutely loves killing off characters, so I wouldn't get too comfortable with any of the. The ones I reckon are pretty safe, and I swear to God I actually spoke to a friend of mine over the weekend telling him I don't think XXX will live much longer (check!), are Arya, Jon Snow and Bran.

having read the books, seeing the reactions to that (rains of Castamere) episode is quite funny. And the story only gets deeper (and sadder at times) from here in. i cant wait for the last two books.
as for the show catching up the books. if they shoot it right the most recent books can easily be split into two seasons, thus buying George RR Martin time to finish the final books

I'm pretty sure I read that book tree is to be split between this and series 4, so yeah they'd be able to buy him some writing time for sure

Agree 1000% jay. There are very few completely good or bad characters here. I liked certain characters thinking they were good, then they go and do something that completely baffles me and the feeling vanishes. I actually feel sorry for the Kingslayer now, as if he's some misunderstood soul. LOL. That's the beauty of this series. Nobody is who they seem at first impression. There's always an angle. The only purebred cunt of the show is that vile scumbag Joffrey.
