House of the Dragon is really excellent, though I'm not sure what we really gained in the last episode from seeing a 49 year old Paddy Considine in an albeit mild sex scene with a 19 year old.

A few weeks ago that girl was supposed to be about 15 and now she's 19 (with no discernable changes in fetures) and having a sex scene. Too much paedo vibes for me to be comfortable watching that im afraid.

I think the point of that scene was to show Allicent feels as though she has no agency and that her wants/needs don't matter (illustrated by the rubbish sex), whereas Rhaneyra, for all her moaning, went out on the town and had great sex with a young, attractive bloke. It gives added context to the confrontation in the following scene, as Allicent is annoyed but she's also jealous.

They could've left it to the imagination and then cut to her after the deed lying there looking dead behind the eyes. She did an interview where she said she was really worried about the scene and was surprised, despite watching Game of Thrones, that such a scene was in it. Just smacks to me of something that in a few years time we'll hear her saying she felt obliged to do and regretted. Maybe I'm forgetting but I don't remember a scene with such a drastic age gap even in Game of Thrones.

I think it was more: Alicent uses sex for duty. Whereas Rhaenaryn uses it for pleasure and power. It’s an old GRRM trope. No doubt that’ll get flipped on it’s head as the story evolves. And to me, in a post Me Too society, actually was one of the more hard hitting scenes of the show, alongside the caesarean scene…

While I would have rather it gone the way FGUAW mentioned - left to the imagination - fair enough if they wanted it this way.

Yeah I understand what they wanted the scene to show but I can't help just thinking about the actor as a person rather than the character she's playing. However I would say they handled both of those contrasting scenes with more grace than any of the similar ones in GoT though.
Anyway, it's certainly living up to pretty much everything I wanted. It's like early Thrones, all about dialogue and people. I'm starting to get that same excitement on the morning I know the next ep will be out.

I haven’t read the books but I feel somewhere down the line Rhys Ifans is going to do some major villainy.
