Rewatching the earlier seasons of GoT is as depressing as watching Premier League Years: "insert years where we were brilliant". Just a sad reminder of how good something used to be. I've rewatched every season multiple times in the past. I'd say I've seen the first couple of seasons a good 7 or 8 times. They are brilliant and you do pick up on new things all the time, particularly foreshadowing of events to come in the future. Season 1, 4 , 6 and 8 were my favourites and I enjoyed the ending.

Binging a show compared to waiting years can change how you view it as well.

I will tell them that season 6 was the last season produced for TV and they must read the rest of it in the books. Hopefully by then they'll have just come out.

Not the type of show to watch with your kids Redcase. Not sure I'd do it when they're 18. The sex scenes would be really awkward, as would all the insest.

I should have prefaced that with , "when my kids turn 35" lol. They'll probably have heard of it by the time they're 13 though. May even get a chance to watch it even... Can't control a damn thing these days.

Easy to replay Star trek every night but not sure about GOT.

Yeah my uncle and cousin (who was 17 when they first started watching it) used to watch GoT together. Always found that really weird. I'm 30 and still wouldn't want to watch it with either of my parents.

Winds of Winter is still not particularly close, and he has the opposite problem to the show; whilst they sped things up outrageously, he has slowed to a glacial pace, evidenced by the sample chapters we have. Even if he sped up significantly, which I highly doubt, there's no way he closes it in two books. Look solely at Dany: she needs to win over the Dothraki (and the way she does it in the show won't work in the books as GRRM has specifically said she isn't fireproof), come back to Mereen, meet and learn to trust Tyrion, go to Westeros, fight Dance of the Dragons 2 with fAegon, meet Jon, fall in love, fight the Walkers, go mad and get killed by Jon. That's ONE character of maybe 20 with fairly substantial arcs. Ok, she's probably the one with the most story to get through, but that's another problem; some characters have much more to do than others right now. At best, it'll be 8 books. I think 9 probably makes more sense, and even then he'll have to pick up the pace a bit. It's not gonna happen.

I haven't watched the last season back bar the first couple of episodes. I've watched every other season at least 3 or 4 times, even season 7. I was thinking about giving it a go last night, but I just couldn't be bothered. I thought GoT was going to be a show that I could re-visit again and again, but the last season really has taken the shine off it.

One thing that annoys me retrospectively is that the wonderful episode prior to the Long Night, with that big group conversation about death, meant basically nothing as barely anyone died.
The director of The Long Night said he got very frustrated with the showrunners over the lack of people killed, and that he wanted to kill Jorah in that initial charge. It doesn't excuse some of his decisions with the dragons and the darkness, but I'm not surprised he was so frustrated. He's spot on more people had to die, though TBH Jorah's death was actually the one that was done really well IMO so I wouldn't change it to be different. I'd just not have him in the initial charge so him reappearing wouldn't be weird.

Been a few months since it finished. Think it's a good time to revisit it now for me (the final season). Going to watch it again over the next couple of weeks.
