Gundogan has ticked the right boxes for me too. His performance against City and in particular Yaya Toure was great. But Klopp is not a fool. No chance of getting anywhere near this lad.

Ilkay is a cracking player. Most of the Dortmund team are. Chiles dimissing them at the end of the Real/city game a couple of weeks ago let on how bloody clueless he is about continental football.
Lewa is a bit of a beast, though would kind of like that Dortmund team to stay together for a few years.
Klopp is also a much preferred foreign option for me to either Jose or Preppy.

I like this team and coach , and lewa would be nice but our defense is in a shambles and our midfield is not complete either. It will take a goetze to replace Scholes. I shudder to think if he hadnt come back.Such class.

I shudder to think if he hadnt come back.Such class. Only like for like replacement for a young Scholes out there is one Andres Iniesta, and for some reason I think he's a bit out of reach. Goetze is quality but again not really what we (edit:) desperately really need. Have a lot of crafty ball players but no real warriors.

Daily Mail are running this as an exclusive despite its lack of sources or quotes.
Striker Robert Lewandowski is heading to Manchester United. The Poland star has indicated to friends he has set his sights on the move from Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season. After rejecting overtures from United last summer, the German club have reluctantly accepted they are about to lose their leading marksman.
Manchester bound: Robert Lewandowski (right) is set to join Sir Alex Ferguson's side With his Dortmund deal running out at the end of next season, United hope the fee will be little more than the initial £12million they paid for his former team-mate Shinji Kagawa last summer. Sir Alex Ferguson believes pairing 24-year-old Lewandowski with Robin van Persie — and Wayne Rooney operating just behind — would give him the most lethal attack in the Premier League.
The fifth musketeer? Ferguson is adding another top weapon to his armoury As well as picking up Lewandowski, Ferguson has told Rooney he needs to get back towards the top of the scorers charts. The Englishman has only three in 14 games for United, one of which was a penalty.

A Bit of a Non Story attached to a couple of actual statements said by Fergie.
Somehow this doesn't seem to be going away. WE seem to be getting attached to all the lost targets ...............................................AGAIN

for some reason i believe this. for the life of me i don't know why we would be in for another striker though.
maybe, just maybe SAF's last major adjustment to the team could be changing the team's default formation. would be strange seeing United without any wingers week-in, week-out, but is Rafa keeps up the current form it wouldnt bee too far fetched.

you mean like a 4-3-3 or a 3-4-1-2. Still leaves Chico and Welbs in a limbo doesn't it?
Wonder if we are thinking of selling one of them. Gutted TBH. Would be better if we went in for Gundogan or Hummels or ...Goetze

im thinking 4-3-3 with the midfield having 1 or 2 sitting, deep and distributing (similarly to what carrick and scholes do now) and the front three being narrow (similarly to how RVP, Hernandez and Rooney played recently)
the width would come from the marauding full backs, ah la Rafael.
this is probably why we are still being linked to Baines for LB. with a system like that, alot will be asked of your full backs. we would need 1-2 extra players (per side of the team) for cover. If we bring back Fabio, he could be Rafa's cover, along with emergency full backs being smalling/Jones.
just a thought.

we don't need him. we've got 4 good strikers, one of Fergie's holy grails. he never talked about having 5 good strikers did he.
the point about rooney having 3 goals in 14 games says a lot. how about instead of buying lewandowsi, we buy a center mid. rooney plays back in his number 10 and starts scoring goals.

Quite a statement and it wouldn't surprise me if it's true, Welbeck and Chico are good players but Lewandowski is on another level, top player so I wouldn't complain.

Hernandez is a top player. wouldn't swap him for lewandowski. no way is he a level above Chico wouldn't swap Welbeck either. he's currently 4th choice striker, and you won't see many 4th choice strikers better than him. and there's more to come from him and all.

Agree with Jim which is why i said that LEwa coming would have to mean an eventual move for one of Chico or Welbs. I really can't see 5 Strikers in our squad unless Rooney is to drop deep or RvP and Welbs are to play the wings week in and out.
@ Jambi - they system is much close to the 3-5-2 with WB's bombing forward , not sure if we are moving ourselves to a particular style comfortable to a "future Would be( probably) Manager".
Still leaves a lot of Qn Marks on Rooney's role along with ,Clevs , Powell and Tunni and Anderson , considering that Carrick and Fletcher can play the Holding Mid's
