Wanted to shift this from the recommended films thread. What did people think? I liked it a lot but had one or two issues with it. I suppose the bar was raised so high by the last one. My biggest concern was Batman being sent to the prison at that stage in the movie just when the action seemed to be really heating up. Thought that was a mistake in the writing. Also as amazing as Tom Hardy is, Bane as never a great choice for the main villian imho. A hired thug, good to bring in to take out Batman but always at the behest of a master villian, the joker or penguin. Should have been the Riddler for me.
Having said all that, the last 45 mins were truly outstanding. And Hathaway was fantastic as Catwoman, as was Levitt as the young cop.

Thought it was awesome. Not quite as good as TDK but I didn't expect that to be topped so I didn't go into expecting it to be that good. It was an amazing film in it's own right. I only saw it last night though so it's a lot to take in. I thought Bane worked well though, personally. I think Batman being in prison wasn't a bad idea but it went on too long, but I suppose that was the point in that shit was hitting the fan and Batman couldn't do anything about it until his triumphant return at the end. I thought the actual concept of the prison was really cool. And yeah Levitt was good. Not sure how Bruce Wayne survived at the end though? At first I assumed he wasn't actually there when Alfred saw him at the end but then people I was with were saying he definitely survived. Seemed weird. I assume Levitt was going to be the next Batman rather than Robin, and that line was simply a nod to the series. Oh and:

Finally. A thread to openly discuss the movie!
I need to talk further about the point you've just touched on tommy - is Bruce Wayne dead?
In my opinion - absolutely yes. But Nolan just offers the idea that perhaps he ejected (after fixing the autopilot mode).
I think Alfred's finally sighting is in his mind - reliving the fantasy again to comfort himself.

Tommy, he fixed the auto pilot on the plane. Lucius was told this just at the end so the implication was that he escaped but wanted people to think he was dead so could get on with his life. Then Alfred saw him at the very end as he had always hoped.
You can't kill freaking Batman. Superman dies yes, but not Batman.

I liked the prison scenes in themselves but thought they should have come earlier in the movie if at all.

Yeah I didn't think there was a definite answer either way? Everybody I was with seemed convinced he survived though.

It's good it's ambiguous though.

^^^ Exactly. The audience is given the option. Those that want Bruce to have lived are allowed to believe it. Those that know the truth, on the other hand....

lol.
I understand not wanting Batman to die but I think it's a more powerful ending if he really did sacrifice himself.

i think if bruce wayne had died they'd have made it more obvious. alfred would see him and smile, look down at his paper, look up again and wayne is gone. or something like that. but they left the ending with robin open for you to imagine the rest so who knows
bane - i thought he was good. i'm not a fan of too many of the DC heels, Joker is the best in any comic but after that I think marvel trumps DC for bad guys. but scarecrow and bane are good and in thought they did a good job with two-face. I'd have liked to have seen more of the nutters in the trilogy, more of victor zsasz, calendar man, mad hatter.
stews point about the prison section breaking up the momentum is interesting, didn't really see it that way myself cos knowing that bane broke batmans back in the comics i didn't expect them to do it mid-film but they did so the prison section and his recovery time was pretty necessary. plus it gave gotham time to get run down before he could come back and save it
overall love the trilogy, just wish they were doing 4 instead of 3.
questions, 1) how good is bruce waynes knee brace? 2) where the fuck did scarecrow come from, had he been locked up in arkham asylum? 3) anyone know what they had in mind for joker if heath ledger hadn't passed on?
