Though, being in the final year of his contract 10-12 mil could be enough, don't you think rene?
Whilst he does tackle well, he gets forward a lot more than Carrick, a bit more mobile in that sense.
I'm undecided on this one, It's unlikely considering what Fergie said but we've been proven wrong in the past. He showed some very good things against us too. Considering the midfield exodus we've had and the uncertainty surrounding Fletcher It might be a good idea to get in a PL-proven player with potential as a decent squad addition. What if Clevers and/or Ando pick up knocks - that's my thinking.

The guy is immense. He played very well last season and is looking like he will carry that into this one. He's the sort of player who dictates games, he's a goal threat having been a striker and he can break up play, along with his size you can't ask for more. I've said all summer it'll be the last position we'll strengthen with he numbers in the position but after his performance against us I wonder if Fergie will be tempted

According to EPLIndex, Dembele's stats compared to our midfielders last season: /photo/1/large If thats true then why the fuck are we trying/wanting to spend money on a player that is just as good as Carrick?!? Even Scholes matches up to Dembele. No thanks. Can't view the image from my phone but logic says if he can equal Carrick playing for an average fulham side he should be able to better himself playing with better players or united

The trouble is we here seem to be after a guy who is an enforcer of the midfield, someone who doesn't take any shit if you get what i mean. Whilst he might be a good player I don't think we need more players who can get forward if that makes sense? We have Scholes, Giggs, Clevs, Ando, Fletcher and possibly Jones as I see him being moulded into that role quite well. I don't see why we need him in all honesty.

Yeah, though you include Scholes and Giggs in that list I don't think we should think of them as squad players for next year as they'll inevitably stop playing and leave 2 gaps to fill in the squad. They can't go on forever. So that leaves Clevs, Ando, Fletch and Powell. Fletcher being the only one who can really stick a foot in and he's not exactly a sure thing these days. I should probably have phrased the 'getting forward' part better, he's more box-to-box-esque thank Carrick, if that makes sense? All I'm saying is I can see where the gaffer is coming from if indeed we see this move happening. That said, I don't think we'll bring him in. Also, I'd love to see Jones molded into that role - though it's borderline blasphemy to some on here

Yeah I see what you mean. I dunno, I'm still of the opinion that we won't be signing anymore this transfer window depending on whether or not we let a few leave though.
Having said that, should we let a few go this might only be to offset the cost we've paid out this summer so i'd still be reluctant to get my hopes up. We've had a great summer IMO and just hope the season will be better than the last!!

Phil Jones should play the next 8-10 years of his career in our midfield, bossing it like a boss. Then, if we really fancy it, we drop him into a Phil Beckenjones centre half position.
I'd love us to play him in a midfield three of Kags, Clevs and Punisher Boss.

I love how Phil Jones just gets more attachments to it.
Phill The Punisher Jones the Boss of all things.
Agree, an eventual Midfield 3 of Kagawa, Punisher and Clevers, in a 4-3-3 with Jones sitting in front of the back 4, would be juicy.

I wouldn't object to giving Jones a proper go in CM / DM, but I'm not sure where this idea has come from that he's going to 'boss' it. He's shown plenty of promise in the games we saw him in last season, but no where near enough for me to get excited and expect him to be our next Roy Keane. He gets stuck in but at the moment he's not that strong, still got a long way to go before fulfilling all the hype.

if this guy can improve our Midfield and can provide some steel and Muscle to our squad and game play, then i can seem him going to City or maybe even pool but not to us. I don;t think that unless we sell some players and offset the summer we will be bringing in anyone.
That said Bestie i'd love if Jones can become the Perma CM enforcer.

I am not convinced by the idea of putting Jones in midfield as an enforcer-punisher. He is a natural CB and can be good RB. Occasionally playing in midfield like Pepe at Madrid is OK, but I fear he might turn out another Alan Smith if we keep up with this jack of all trades thing. Guess Alan Smith has not scored till date since we started playing him in midfield!! Jones is still 21 and can become awesome CB if given time to develop.

Now I'm not 100% sure this isn't a wind up but the guy's followed by a few respected transfer ITK's on twitter so has 'some' credibility in my eyes!

two problems with this, one is that you've dropped out carrick, two is that jones is a center half.
