Talking to a few boys yesterday about this. Rooney always seems to have a slow or stuttered start to the season anyway. I remember a few years back he was slated then he scored a hat trick against Bolton and went on a good run. Does my head in when the "get rid of him" band wagon gets going (not saying this is the case on here but it is out and about). He was the 2nd highest goalscorer in the league last year, fuck me what do people want from him. He gives 110% in the united shirt, does this mean hes not allowed an off day? course it does. Yes he had a poor game against Everton but to ask for his head after that game is ridiculous. Some united fans expect too much, if not they expect us to win 38/38 otherwise players should go. Nani, Wazza, Young, Anderson. All of these have been exiled to the back door list. Rooney may have made a monumental fuck up a few years back with his ransom dealings but hes given his all every week, whether hes good or bad and its still not fucking good enough for some people. How about they have a bit of faith in him because we all know hell come good again when he comes back. Instead of critising the boy get behind him and the team. Failing that fuck off and support someone else. 100% this. Nice one Paul.

I think that the fact reports come out questioning Rooney's commitment to training and fitness etc. and the fact some of us didn't find it that much of a stretch of imagination tells it's own story.

i agree that youthful exubberance that saw him whiz past players and hit 30 yard screamers disappeared a while ago. he def plays with a responsibility and even a bit of economy. he's probably found fitness harder to come by and maintain as he's got older as well. he always had the body of someone years older didn't he.
i didn't share your dislike of the celebration vs city besto, even off the shin it was an exceptional goal and against city to boot. i'd be very proud to have hit that no matter what had gone on before.
plus the fact that whenever roonbat scores he normally goes over and spoils his assist-maker [something other players should do more, always bugs me is when someone gets a tap in off a team mates clever industry or graft or whatever and goes running off in the other direction milking the moment], i can afford him a moment like that against the noses.

Failing that fuck off and support someone else. Yeah, I'll go with most of that. He scored a lot of goals for us last season lest we forget. He's changed as a player over the course of 10 years but in some ways that's expected. He's matured and become a more consistent goal scorer. Maybe RVP has turned some people's heads, or maybe their opinions on Rooney are long standing, but for me he's our best player and I'm not about to start calling for his head. He'll be back.

Like Tatty, I wouldn't mind letting Rooney go if we are offered anything above £60mil. With all the money bandying about, I'm sure one of the silly clubs can cough up that amount. that's not happening

'He and Robin van Persie are needing games,' said Sir Alex. 'To start the two of them would have been too much. Wayne understood that. 'There is no problem. He played his part when he came on.'
Hopefully that should put an end to all the nonsense.

at this point i reckon not, imagine waz reacts strongly and positively to having serious competition for a place for the first time in his life? it might change the course of his career.

Rooney isn't stupid, he realises he has to perform, more-so now that Van Persie has come in the door. In fact RVP arriving is probably good for him, keeps him on his toes
I agree with Jim, i expect Rooney to react strong and positively to having serious competition. I think he will, and i expect him to be with us long-term.
I don't think anybody's denying valid points being made about a lack of form, etc, etc, etc...but he's not a robot who puts in majestic performances and scores screamers like the one against City every other week, he's human.
Nobody's position at the club should be safe no matter how high profile a player you are, of course that should be the case.

I'd give him this season, at least. In fact, until he has two years on his contract left, if that's a different time.
As jim says, see how he reacts and works with genuine class around him.

Plus even though RVP would be a good replacement now, he's 29. We'd have a job finding another player of Rooney's stature for the mid-long term future. I know Rooney isn't a kid anymore but he has a good few years in him.

His contract expires June 2015 Besto, i.e. your situation could arise next year.

Well said mate ! how can any united fans want us to sell our best players lets say we sell Rooney for a ridicules amount of money (which from previous experiences wont be invested back into our team) we've got an unreal striker in RVP for 3 seasons and that's barring any (touch wood) injury's then whos our main man welbeck ? dont get me wrong dannys got so much potential but imo he hasnt (yet) shown he can be an "elite" striker Rooney has got easily 5/6 years ahead , hasnt even reached his full potential he still got some maturing to do ....And yet fans want him gone .....Is this real life? ?
