Batsmen nowadays have safety helmets, shin pads, arm pads, reinforced jockstraps (bollocks protectors). Getting a bit like American Gridiron Football. Never had any of them years ago. I remember when Brearley wore that tiny skullcap that covered his temples and he was ridiculed - was it against the Windies and the likes of Marshall, Holding, Holder etc? Fuck me they wear helmets batting against spinners these days

Yes - that was my point - Brearley was ridiculed for pointing out that protection was vital against the quicks But I still don't think there is a need for a helmet against spinners - although the keeper needs one against them

Using helmet against spinners is also essential imo, when you play sweep shot or reverse sweep then a top edge might come directly towards face.

Its getting mad these days. Gayle with fastest double century and now ABD with the fastest 150. At this rate the bowlers should wear jerseys with the words inscribed 'Rape me'. The bowlers need some protection, the rule changes have killed the bowlers' effectiveness. You need to have a BIG heart to be a bowler. I'm pretty over cricket now. It's basically how many sixes can you hit. I was a bowler so it's sad to watch these days. Me too a bowler, hence can feel the pinch. Actually, the problem started since the introduction of the powerplay, and the last couple of rule changes have just made it worse. One of the rules is definitely going to be reversed. I just hope that both are reversed.

What bothers me is the consistency of this types of scores these days, it is enjoyable if it happens once in a while but if we start to see this everyday then it will be boring and Australian pitches are considered as one of the toughest pitches to bat still we are seeing some insane totals in this World Cup. And only 4 fielder outside the 30 yard circle is a stupid rule with the bats they use these days. Yup, we are not far from the day where we end the match like we start i.e. with 2 players outside the circle

Could be the fact but players can get out with poor technique but should get injured because of that

Mark Boucher almost lost an eye when a bail hit his eye. He was not wearing a helmet or protective glasses which he normally wears. So I dont mind helmets tbf

Thats true, I dont deny that. But give them some protection so that they can experiment

This is how I remember cricket. The crowd loved it, the batsmen never but they just got on with it. Not much protection in them days.
