Athletics will eventually go down that road sooner or later. You get a lot of young athletes nowadays that have a 9-5 job but if they get selected to represent their countries at the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, World or European Athletic Games they have to try and get time off work and look for sponsorship to help them out. Some of the big athletic stars today heave TV deals and advertising deals that pay them so they do not have a problem money wise. Dont the Government of the respective Countries pay enough for the athletes for representing the Country in Olympic, Commonwealth Games etc? I thought its only hard until you get to represent the Country after that it gets easy. Nowadays buddy the government or party that is running the country in the UK tend to bring politics into sport too get their party ratings up in the polls for general elections. Thus, they 'pump their gums' saying they will help out but really they could not give two shits.

Yup - it's all PR Truth is athletes make their money from sponsorship and competing at the "elite" events during the summer in Europe Wasn't Linford Christie getting £40 -50k for the odd night in Basel all those years ago What that fuck must Bolt be on now for less than 10 seconds "work"?

In the Forbes' list of world's highest-paid athletes for 2014, Bolt is only 45th. 45 - Usain Bolt Track and field Jamaica $23.2 million Rooney is above him at 43 lol. 43 - Wayne Rooney Football England $23.4 million1 Floyd Mayweather Boxing United States $105 million 2 Cristiano Ronaldo Football Portugal $80 million 3 LeBron James Basketball United States $72.3 million 4 Lionel Messi Football Argentina $64.7 million 5 Kobe Bryant Basketball United States $61.5 million 6 Tiger Woods Golf United States $61.2 million 7 Roger Federer Tennis Switzerland $56.2 million 8 Phil Mickelson Golf United States $53.2 million 9 Rafael Nadal Tennis Spain $44.5 million 10 Matt Ryan American football United States $43.8 millionMind you that has more than likely changed this year and other lists might differ.

That's for a year?? I'm in the wrong job - pirating DVDs used to be so lucrative BTW - I hate Rooney even more now .. although if he's on that much he should have saved his money on the plugs and got a new head instead

The Scots had the game in their back pocket for the majority of the 100 overs. Just couldnt finish off Afghan. To their credit, Afgan held their nerves better.

They were running at about 1.13 on a couple of betting exchanges before I went to sleep - so really should have had the game won at that point

Its getting mad these days. Gayle with fastest double century and now ABD with the fastest 150. At this rate the bowlers should wear jerseys with the words inscribed 'Rape me'. The bowlers need some protection, the rule changes have killed the bowlers' effectiveness. You need to have a BIG heart to be a bowler.

This is why I really hate the T20 format - The game is supposed to be a fair match between batsman and bowler IMO and the bowlers in T20 are being asked to bend over and take it up the arse in the name of "entertainment" I wonder if the old school bowlers like Beefy and Willis would be happy consistently going for 7 or 8 an over?

It's basically how many sixes can you hit. I was a bowler so it's sad to watch these days.

What bothers me is the consistency of this types of scores these days, it is enjoyable if it happens once in a while but if we start to see this everyday then it will be boring and Australian pitches are considered as one of the toughest pitches to bat still we are seeing some insane totals in this World Cup. And only 4 fielder outside the 30 yard circle is a stupid rule with the bats they use these days.

They have just tinkered with the rules so often to make things easier for the batsman over the years even 50 over cricket has become a joke - I remember when a score between 200 and 250 was considered a good one - now 300+ is the norm and soon we'll see consistent scores of over 400 Give me Test cricket any day - play in white and the only real evolution since the Bodyline days is the use of helmets

Batsmen nowadays have safety helmets, shin pads, arm pads, reinforced jockstraps (bollocks protectors). Getting a bit like American Gridiron Football. Never had any of them years ago.
