a really underrated English band was Diamond Head. without them bands like Metallica may have sounded very different. I also think Sabbath are underrated. Most non-fans think of the song paranoid, which is the most boring song they've done. they are the daddies. It's strange to call Zepellin underrated, but i don't know many people who are as into them as me. if you like Punk then check out the Wildhearts, another underrated English band. Ginger Wildheart does a lot of solo stuff now. i still like the Stone Roses [what United fan doesn't] the clash, happy mondays, stuff from that era. had the big Oasis obsession at one point. quite like some old school hip hop, also if you like stuff from the dubstep / digital age check out Burial, very chilled out, bit more subtle. Middle Class Rut - noisy little 2-piece from the states, they've played download. i don't know anyone else who's actually heard of them, and i've asked a good few people, even at festivals no cunt seems to have heard of them. first stuff i really got into as a kid was MJ, first album i ever bought was Dangerous. used to love watching his movies, he really was the coolest mofo ever. also if you're after some obscure underground act with a half-mad female vocalist....ask Bo

Lately I've been listening to various bits of post-rock from bands like Saxon Shore, Joy Wants Eternity, God is an Astronaut and Russian Circles. For something similarly chilled but with lyrics I have been listening to bands like Husky, Slowdive, Mark Eitzel and Neil Halstead.
When I fancy something with words and less whimsy I've gone for all sorts really, from the rasping punk of The Exploited to the Joy Division inspired post-punk of new band Savages to those crazies in Death from Above 1979 to noise/post-rock chaps A Place to Bury Strangers to the gloomy gothy girl Chelsea Wolfe.
My all-time favourite band has to be Joy Division though, no album ever pulls me in like 'Unknown Pleasures' or 'Closer". Although lately I've been really enjoying their earlier material under the name of Warsaw.

Not sure about Sabbath and Led Zep being underrated Jim.
But I guess you could say they're underrated among the younger generation now because people only care about what's fashionable and current, and don't really appreciate real music.

Looking online, it looks like that gig was late 2005.

Not sure about Sabbath and Led Zep being underrated Jim. not as in like a hidden gem, but how many people do you know who if you asked them about black sabbath would laugh it off, say that ozzy's a madman and they're a bunch of satanists? or how many people if u asked them about zeppelin might mention whole lotta love from top of the pops, or possibly stairway to heaven and that's about the extent of their knowledge. that's people in general, not even the kiddies that you mention, although that point is valid too.
