Ok so the Times have a back page exclusive tomorrow stating that PSG are readying a big offer for Rooney in the summer. They are usually pretty reliable and it wouldn't really be surprising given the money they chucked around last summer. What do people think? Accept a bid of £40-50m for a player who hasn't exactly been at his best this season, with his fitness and form both in question regularly? Or is he deemed to important to the team, with him often putting in crucial performances when needed and still playing a big role for us? I'd love to be able to say I'm 100% behind Rooney staying and any bid to be instantly rejected, but there is just part of me that feels in the long run it could turn out to be a masterstroke. Kagawa would get to play in his preferred position (which he needs IMO) and with the £40-50m on top of our usual budget we'd have £100m~ to spend (you'd hope so anyway). Not only could we buy some real quality, but we could really improve the team as a whole. New CB, LB, CM, LW and ST could all be bought. If it came down to either keeping Rooney or buying say all these instead of say two; Garay, Baines, Strootman, Rodriguez and Lewandowski I think it'd be a very difficult choice. I can't really see this happening at all, I'd just like to hear what other people think.

Rooney was just 1 of a dozen or more potential changes that i mentioned back in January.
Would tie in and help explain all the talk of Lewandowski.
Then again, so would the Hernandez to Madrid talk.

I'm not really keen on Rooney to leave, not because of loyalty issues, but what he can bring to the club on his good days. Furthermore, I really want a team that gels with each other... and Rooney has been at the club for ages now, so he's quite a mature team member.
As with every other player - I would only consider selling a player if (1) we have a very suitable replacement in mind, and (2) we get what we deserve out of the sale. If we were to sell Rooney, I will not accept anything less than £60m - £70m for his prime age. I'm not sure Lewandowski can fill Rooney's work ethnicity though.

How could Kagawa play behind the striker if we signed Lewendowski?

urgh. no way would i want to lose chico. me neither, but i think this may be part to the '50 Mil for Ronaldo' smoke that we have been seeing recently. (yeah, i said Ronaldo) esp, since i am seeing a quote from Chico's agent/dad that should the club (MUFC) receive an offer from Madrid, that Chico would have to seriously evaluate it. (granted im not sure how reliable the quotes are though)

Rooney is too immense for us, the impact he has over an entire season is tremendous. We dont have to bring in any strikers or loose any Id be just fine.

I have advocated the sale of Rooney, but only with certain stipulations;
1) he becomes the second most expensive player in history 2) we line up a replacement striker 3) we buy a quality midfielder too.
The reasons I am open to selling him are;
1) he's never reached the level we hoped (messi and Ronaldo's league) 2) we have Kagz and RvP to soften the blow 3) I don't know how much I can trust a player who sought a move to our nearest rivals.
In saying that, I recognise that he's a vital part of our team. We miss him when he's not there, even when he's not on top form. A look at his goal and assists this season - by no means one of his best - show how important he is. He is also a tireless worker, and a good character to have around the team. He is a leader without the armband - it would take someone special to replace him - that's why if we are to sell him, his replacement/s need to be truly special.

I could live with a 'Rooney out/Ronaldo in' kind of situation.
