As I said last night when Rooney was warming up - for all the talk about him leaving, and how we can afford to sell him with RvP in and maybe swapping him for Bale/Ronaldo whatever, can anyone really imagine him in any other shirt or United without Rooney? (It's magical by the way.)

(It's magical by the way.) Not really but the same could be said about other players in the past. We know Fergie has been ruthless with players before (Becks, Keane, Stam etc), so with two years left on his contract I think he'll either be sold this summer or will stay here for life. If he was to leave, it'd have to be abroad but I can't see that happening, I don't think he's the sort of player that would go abroad. He's supposed to be hitting peak performance now so I do hope that happens in a United shirt but it's down to himself to make it happen. Starting the season a stone over weight is shocking behavior for a man on £250k a week. If he comes back next season refreshed and in prime condition then he won't give Fergie a chance to drop him again. It's been hard to watch him this season, I don't think he's ever really been at full fitness, his touch has been dreadful at times and he's been in and out the team. Hopefully he can just put it down as a injured marred season and come back fighting next summer, I think everyone would prefer to have a fully fit and fighting Wayne than selling him on.

I can envision or imagine a United without Rooney - honestly, I could, but I would rather NOT.
Like I told Carbo yesterday night - if we sell him, I'll hope we have enough common sense to replace him with someone(s) as capable as Rooney. The only FM scenario I would think plausible is to sell Rooney for £80m - buy Bale / Neymar (£50m) and an established / up and coming box-box midfielder (£30m).
In all seriousness though - I'm 95% sure he wouldn't leave. Media was just looking for something before the match. Suffice to say, they are having a field day with the red card so we're slightly off the hook with the "OMFG Have you heard Rooney is leaving?!!!!one11one" gossip on the papers.

80m for Wayne? Are you kidding?! Well, I upped the price from my original quote of £60m to £70m, but since I did say "FM Scenario"... and I *did* sell him on FM for £80m before... so... But I wouldn't be surprised if PSG stumped up that amount for him. Ronnie went in 2009 for £80m... so by rule of thumb, English + Inflation = x2 of his actual value?

Funny how we call for the heads of players that don't give half the effort they should, but when Wazza has the odd bad game or starts on the bench people start to call for him to go or suggest that he will be.
Not aimed at anyone on here but the social sites, they have been off on one since last night. Just please do us a favour and Fuck away off. Can't believe some fans actually speak like that about one of their own stars. Could do with all that.

Doesn't the English inflation only apply if the buying club is... English?

When I saw he was on the bench last night I figured that he had told Welbz or Clevers or Giggsy to run themselves into the ground to cover Ronnie and Alonso and then Wazza would come on at around 60 mins and be a game changer....sadly we will never know....the speculation is (hopefully) just lazy journalism...

Rooney, 27, was left on the bench by United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, only coming on for the last 17 minutes, as the Red Devils were eliminated from the competition courtesy of a 2-1 second leg defeat. "For Rooney not to start is a real kick in the teeth and it's got to be a big worry for him," Owen told Talksport. "It's the biggest game of the season and the manager has shuffled his pack and not included him. "Wayne will take it one of two ways. He will either get his head down, try to improve and force his way back into the team, or he'll think, 'The manager has not picked me for the biggest game, he obviously doesn't fancy me', and it might not be the end of the story." "For Rooney not to start is a real kick in the teeth and it's got to be a big worry for him. It's the biggest game of the season and the manager has shuffled his pack and not included him." Michael Owen Ferguson has said repeatedly this season that England international Rooney needs to play matches to keep fit, and takes time to recover when he has a spell out of the side, the reason given for Rooney's omission for Tuesday's game at Old Trafford. Two seasons ago, Rooney threatened to leave United for a club that better matched his ambition but was convinced to remain. Owen, who spent three years at United before being released in 2012, insists he never witnessed any evidence of a problem in the relationship between Rooney and his manager during his time at the club. "When I was at Manchester United their relationship was very good, they talked, shared jokes and there were no problems whatsoever," said Owen. "I would be surprised if it was something of that nature , but the decision to leave him out isn't going to help if it is that."
If Rooney was to leave United, Owen believes the options open to him are limited.
"Sometimes when you're at the level he is at you don't have many options," said Owen. "If you are a mediocre player you have 20 teams in England and abroad that you can move to.
"If Wayne Rooney moves, where does he go to? Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Chelsea and PSG, there's only half a dozen teams.
"It's just speculation though. He's been dropped for one game and I'm sure he will bounce back.
"Obviously Wayne has got to get his head down now and start recapturing his best form. He's certainly got the right attitude and ability to get back into the manager's thoughts."

He was very average and his performance got covered up purely because of the goal. Touch was poor on and gave the ball away on multiple occasions.

Maybe i was watching a different game but i thought he was very good? making the most of possession and working hard to bully the opposition on defense.
