Only three players (Stewart Downing, Morgan Amalfitano and Ahmed Elmohamady) have completed more open crosses in the Premier League this season than Valencia (16). How many have they all tried. Far out, when I was a whipper snapper we had Ginola, Giggs, Kanchelskis, Sharpe, Overmars and Beckham etc on the wings. Now we have Downing, Valencia and the other crap. What the hell has happened to good wingers?

Interesting article from Robbie Savage on a clear-out of United's squad... www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25665649Reckons Smalling, Fabio, Ferdinand, Fellaini, Anderson, Giggs, Nani, Young, Cleverley, Valencia and Hernandez should all be sold/retire. I think he's wrong on Smalling, Fabio and Hernandez, and maybe Cleverley, but the rest he's spot on with. However he also reckons that United need to spend £200m to overhaul the squad, which would be wonderful but in reality is never going to happen. Fuck Robbie savage he knows fuck all

Fuck Robbie savage he knows fuck all Yeah, exactly - Savage had hardly mentioned his United roots until Class of 92 came out. Now all of a sudden he's an authority on the club's affairs. And saying we should get rid of the those players is about as insightful as saying "we should win more games and we'd stand a better chance of winning the league."

Valencia is a shadow of what we saw in his first season, it even looks like the blistering speed he had is gone, I'd sell and play Zaha/lingard on the right. Sell Nani and young, play kagawa/januzaj on the left. Cleverley had a 2 game improvement but has gone back to his normal standards, sell him and Anderson and let's get 2 creative mids in. I believe fellaini will come good and fletcher will pick up, carrick is carrick. Right back we have Rafael and varela was bought for a reason, left back we have Fabio so get shaw or contrenao. Center backs, smalling jones and Evans so add 1 more, as rio and vidic will not hit their heights, it 's the reality. Goalkeeper we are covered, strikers we are covered but if Rooney leaves then let me just say I think Powell would do a great job in the hole and welbeck can aswell, they will not play kagawa there although it's his favoured position, let me add by now he should be doing better on the left, he maybe smarter or more technical than his teammates etc but he should be showing greater adaptation by now. All in all I count we need 4 players, max that would be 100 million taking into account sales (Anderson (10), cleverley (7)' young (10), Valencia (10), bebe (1), macheda (1), Nani (13)) those sales should really be generating 50 million. Oh and sell buttner, that further solidifies my view sales should net 50 million worst case. The position we are in means we should be pruning, if I were moyes I would start now and not wait until the summer.

Savage is a dick but its just part of his weekly column he's asked to do, he hasn't just randomly come out and said United need to get rid of all these players because he's an authority on the club.
He just watches our games like we do, albeit not as a fan, so if anything we're no more knowledgeable than he is in regards to how the players perform on the pitch, if anything we're less knowledgeable given he's actually had playing experience. I don't know why us fans think we're the pinnacle of footballing knowledge and expertise. He might be a cock and a mediocre player but even he, a douche, has more practical footballing knowledge than us, of whom none have played any football outside of a Sunday league pitch at best.

However, given our expertise in the market, I think you may be overestimating what we will get for those we sell. Traditionally we seem to undersell and overpay. I agree that Powell would do well as a second striker / in the hole. I think we could retain Buttner but as a winger (squad player) he is pretty good going forward but not a great defender. I'm a bit worried about RvP as he seems to be getting injuries for the first time in about 3 years - if this continues we definitely need another top striker. And phc will be off sooner or later. Edit: Agree with Carbs that Kagawa should be central, not left....

Agree with Savage about all the players, Valencia should be one of the first ones out the door, he's simply not good enough.

Barca murdered them all when they hood-winked the world into thinking passing the ball fifty-five thousand and twelve times before actually attacking was "beautiful" football. Now everyone is obsessed with this four-two-three-one inverted wingers shite. One thing I give Sherwood credit for at Spurs. He plays a pacy right-footer on the right -wing and a pacy left-footer on the left-wing. And it still works! Valencia is a shadow of what we saw in his first season, it even looks like the blistering speed he had is gone, I'd sell and play Zaha/lingard on the right. Coincidentally a couple of games where he wasn't playing beside Giggs or Carrick but Jonesy. A young, mobile, energetic midfield partner. Strangely much like Anderson during the heady days of early 2011-2012 season ...

Whilst I fully agree that kagawa should play centrally, he is not there now and probably won't be going forward. The flip side is he should be having more of an impact on the left. He is young and very intelligent, he plays on the left for japan so he is no novice to it, we all know his best position but he has to push on

This is my problem with Jaunzaj Bestie. People keep talki about him centrally. He's 18, plenty of time to convert. Im the mean time he's one of the few gifted wingers in the world. Give him the number 11 and play 433.

Sharing the same sentiment as you, and for once, I agree mostly with Savage on this ones. I think most of us do. We do need some savage clearing outs, buying and blooding ins. Smalling, Fabio and Cleverley should stay. The rest should retire / go.

I am sorry but i will never accept that Cleverley or Smalling or Fabio should be sold just cos they appear to have normal or bad games.
You can't bloody play a CB at RB and then expect him to perform - he ain't gonna do that. He is a good CB and should be played there - Smalling stays.
Carrick for a longer part of his career did the donkey work covering for Scholes - i am not taking a shot at Scholes FFS (so hold your horses) and was blamed for every loss and all conceivable ills till.. wait when Scholes Moved and everyone discovered Carrick.
Mata or Silva or Toure will suffer and play badly if you play them beside Giggs or Fellaini or Carrick at times and expect to carry the entire attack from MF when your wingers are near the corner touch line and the strikers wont move from the box and Rooney is still coming back from playing CB ( fair play that he covers ground and all but if he fucking wants to be everywhere else why whine about not being --- you know striker).
Fabio - nothing can be said about him cos not many have actually seen him forget seeing him play proper footy.
TOny V - not sure yes his crossing has been bad, but i'd still stick with him for atleast another season. Arsenal Stuck with Ramsey and he is just starting to payback for them. Coming back from horrible injuries is never easy.
Rio- it was always gonna be either his last season or his last with us and then a year or two in US. Evra - same but with France instead of US. Both great servants but are past it. Giggs - DO i even need to tell.
Sell - Ando , Nani, Young, if Buttner is not gonna be used as a winger ( which he was to start with, said we should try it), Macehda ,Bebe. Promote , Use - Kags, Zaha, Powell , Tunners, Blackett, Henriques, Keane's. Buy : any 1 quick creative MF to partner Jones/Clevs along with Carrick , swap PHC for something better to use , a LB , A defender and a winger (left) - will cost anywhere between 120-150 Mill esp given it'd be WC year and we are slower off the blocks in transfers also

The real question after doing a mass clear-out, is would we ever take the punt on someone like a Suarez? No doubting he was a good player, but he's a knob, and he'd only ever done in the Eredivisie when he moved to Liverpool, for a lot of money. Admittedly, looks a bargain now, but would we tolerate spending £24mill on someone who hadn't cut it at the highest level? Because that's what it's going to take. A big gamble on a potentially golden player. We did it with CR7 but haven't looked like doing something similar since.
