We're in more debt than that, have been for a long time, but aside from that (and assuming a lot of Bolton's debt will be written off in this deal)...my point was Ed sold a decent player for less than or equal to a whole fucking Championship Football club, and even worse, £5 mil or so less than Andros Townsend. But if you want to nitpick around sarcastic posts about Ed's incompetence, then I'm not quite sure what your point is

I also agree that Hernandez was sold far too cheaply but using Bolton as an example doesn't quite work for me... Oh, and yes we are in debt since the blood sucking gimps took over but we have considerably more income than Bolton and can service that debt (much as we all hate that debt) ...Bolton don't have a cat in hell's chance...comparing apples and oranges I feel...

When was the last time you saw a player as bad at their job as Woodward is at his?

When was the last time you saw a player as bad at their job as Woodward is at his? The last 3 or 4 years of Wayne Rooney springs to mind.

www.joe.co.uk/sport/the-compelling-evidence-that-ed-woodward-is-a-double-agent-working-for-manchester-city/58606"The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he wasn't a blue." - Verbal Kint, Top Red. History is littered with highly influential individuals who were more than happy to play the fool. They wear a veil of stupidity to hide their Machiavellian ways, and are thus shielded from proper interrogation by their gauze of surface idiocy. Yet under the dunce's hat they are the smartest person in the room. Manchester United's Ed Woodward is widely lampooned for being an incapable, arse-covering dimwit in his current role of executive vice-chairman of the club. He is seen as a perfect example of the Peter principle of business - every employee will rise or get promoted to his or her level of incompetence. But there is strong evidence to suggest that Mr Woodward is in fact an incredibly astute snake in the grass; that rather than being a neck-bearded fool with a perfectly circular head, he is in fact something of an evil genius. We put it to you that he is not a Man United mug, but rather a Man City mastermind. Here's the reasoning behind our theory that Old Trafford's head honcho is in fact a double-agent working for City Football Group to bring down the Manchester United dynasty from within. Garry Cook 2.0 At the very beginning of the modern Man City revival there was Garry Cook, a somewhat bumbling administrator who had made his name in the marketing and sponsorship side of sport before being promoted into the role of football club CEO. Remind you of anyone? Cook was oft criticised for not quite getting football, and the transfer market in particular, yet he was prone to mouthing off about City's huge wealth and the need to sign marquee players. He even went as far as to suggest Brazil star Kaka lacked 'bottle' for rebuffing the Blues' advances. City's hierarchy obviously learned from this prototype idiot and perfected his clueless persona for their plant. Ed Woodward would be even more deluded than Cook, and far more efficient in his imprudent management of club funds. Think Terminator 2 but without the cool melty bit. Transfer activity One of Woodward's greatest transfer window triumphs (from City's point of view) was so breathtakingly audacious that it very nearly blew his cover before he'd got properly started. Whilst botching up a number of potential deals for then manager David Moyes, he did sanction one - Marouane Fellaini. In the summer of 2013, the bushy-haired Everton totem pole was available for his release clause of £23.5m. But Abu Dhabi's finest wasn't content with simply paying this inflated fee for an inferior player. Instead he let the clause expire and then handed the grateful Merseyside club £27.5m a matter of weeks later. The bold move set a precedent. Ever since, Ed has made elongating negotiations to breaking point his trademark. He plays the long game, preferring to wait until the selling club is fed up and United are desperate to maximise the fee. If he's lucky a rival comes in gazump the deal and please his real bosses. Louis van Gaal By far the strongest indicator that Woodward is a secret blue is his resolute insistence not to sack the failing Louis van Gaal. Of course the Dutchman faces the overwhelming ire of the Old Trafford faithful but he is but a convenient stooge. A Brendan Dassey to Woodward's Ken Kratz, if you will. United's Premier League season has had more final straws than a McDonald's decanter. There have been various defining moments that have demanded a change of head coach. Even poor Van Gaal has begged to be set free. And yet Woodward has stuck stubbornly to his struggling sexagenarian. The fact that Jose Mourinho has been ready and waiting the wings makes the status quo all the more delicious to the chief suit and his Abu Dhabi masters. As the months go on, and with each passing season, the plan to destroy Manchester United from within via breathtaking incompetence nears completion.

tbnsport.com/2016/05/17/ed-woodward-savours-rare-moment-of-success-after-correctly-preparing-sandwich/Punching his fist into air while breathing a deep, tired breath, Ed Woodward savoured a moment of rare success today after correctly preparing a sandwich. Wiping his kitchen knife with a damp cloth and laying it to the side of his plate, the executive vice chairman of Manchester United was said to have been filled with a mix of delight after successfully making what he described as a “top quality” ham, cheese and lettuce sandwich in his Manchester home. “Thank God. I needed that one,” said the 49-year-old as he nervously chewed, fearing he may discover a hitherto unknown fault in its composition. “I needed a win, and this is as close as I’m going to get today.” “The bread is thick, but not dry; the ham is well sliced; the cheese is just the right degree of sharp and the lettuce perfectly crisp,” he added while trying to suppress his growing embarrassment at just how proud he was of the snack. At press time, Woodward revealed he felt the tide was beginning to turn his way after making a cup of tea without scalding himself once.

reading the level of scrutiny being directed to Ed in the papers is making me feel all warm and fuzzy. i hope they keep up the pressure with every poor result.
Jose is just the latest symptom of the virus that Ed Woodward is to the club.
in another breath, how was the last post in this thread in 2016? we are dropping the ball on this, needs WAAAAY more entries to keep this relevant.

www.joe.co.uk/sport/manchester-united-ed-woodward-mourinho-195660COMMENT: Don't worry Manchester United fans - Ed Woodward's got this Ed Woodward rarely misses a trick. That said, the Old Trafford boss must have kicked himself when he heard that Manchester City were producing a fly-on-the-wall documentary series with Amazon Prime. In this age of footballtainement, it was a no-brainer. Not to be outdone, Woody got busy with a warts-and-all televisual production of his own. He just needed to set the scene. It makes perfect sense in hindsight. After all, why else would the United boss neither relieve Jose Mourinho of his duties, nor provide him with the necessary reinforcements he very publicly demanded over the summer? Why do so little to address the chasm in quality between the reds and the blues of Manchester ahead of the new season? It is because, as any fool knows, happenings on the pitch never take precedence over follower numbers, trending topics, and brand amplification. Ed was thinking inside the box, and creating the perfect storm for a ratings winner of his own. Some proper HBO shit too. Who wants a nicey nice success story when you can have a blood-spilling drama? Woodward was fully aware that the best way to fuck up United's season - and thus make for must-see TV - would be to frustrate a third season Mourinho and give him nothing of what he wanted. Not only would that enrage him nicely, but it would also undermine him to such an extent that players would feel able to publicly criticise him with impunity. Add a frustrated and volatile fanbase to the mix (anger is a great way to drive social engagement), and a spike in media attention whenever things go to shit, and you're talking multi-region syndication. And just imagine how it'll play in the States. They'll absolutely lap up the political shenanigans - like House of Cards but more backstabbing. It's masterful stuff when you start thinking of the season less in terms of football, and more in the way of a psychological thriller. All the ingredients are in place for slow-burning but inevitable implosion. There'll no doubt be a Christmas cliffhanger and perhaps even a new manager, who'll have to pick up the plot and start all over again. Managers and players may come and go, but the one constant is Woodward. The boardroom Tarantino deserves all the praise in the world for carefully constructing a clusterfuck of such epic proportions. He could not have planned it all any worse - and therefore any better. Neither back nor sack the manager - just wait for him to monumentally crack. First we had the slapstick comedy of a feckless David Moyes, then the pantomime of a professionally expired Van Gaal, and now the high drama of a combustible Mourinho doused in petrol. Ed Woodward sure knows how to pour millions into a project and add enough ludicrous plot twists to keep everyone guessing. Make room in the trophy cabinet boys - I smell Emmys.

It looks like he is stepping aside to divide his role and hand over to a football director anyway. At least there is that, but unless he gets rid of sour puss as well it will remain as bad.
The problem is, I don't have any faith in him doing this right either
