This entire thread would have been perfectly interesting without the "i.e. sacking clause" at the end. Minimum expectations are an interesting discussion so perhaps we should just edit the title? Or just expectations. Sure. Why not.

Lol
Given you started mentioning "hypotheticals" on Jose getting sacked back in November (you know, barely 6 months after we had appointed him), and have started a whole new thread to do the same again, what do you expect?
I bet if Simeone was appointed, he bought Griezmann and Fabinho in & we got relegated, you wouldn't be calling for his head. Let alone bringing up hypothetical situations as to when to sack him, 6 months after being appointed.
Fucking hell. Bestie is right, this thread is being marked as read forever.

I maintain that truly 'minimum' expectations mean that if you fall below them a manager's job is under threat, but no one seems to agree! Might be easier to start a new thread as this one has got a bit toxic?

Of course I would be calling for Simeone's head in that scenario. I expect all our managers to qualify for the CL as a bare minimum. As I said, I expected a discussion that didn't transpire. Obviously I didn't expect reasoned discussion or debate from you specifically, because you're you and that's who you are, but I thought others might be interested. For the most part, I was wrong, and that's fine. Others can just leave the thread to die, as all threads do eventually.

I'd opt to edit the thread title personally, it's their perogative whether or not they end up reading the ensuing content - as is it everyone's with every thread on here.

With our financial muscle and resources top 4 should be the minimum, I think by next season we could seriously challenge for the title with Jose, something we could have done under van Gaal and that clown.

Rustin mate...as has been suggested on here...take out the sacking bit and it becomes a reasonable discussion...we have been used to stability under Fergie and massive instability under the other two means that we really would like to stick by a manager so the sacking suggestion is where the discussion gets silly...as has been mentioned, even if we have a dodgy season, very few will advocate Jose going...
So, yes, have expectations but don't try to propose the ultimate consequence...saves the vitriol and then you can have a debate...
Just my take anyway...

i need to involve myself in this discussion despite being on holidays on the beach in fucking romania
talking about sacking mourinho is fucking ridiculous.we've got the best manager in the world who has won us 2 1/2 trophies in his first year, brought back some huge names to the club and says he'd like to stay for 15 years if possible. you know what?please do that jose.if we finish 12th mourinho needs to stay and receive time and funds.he already transformed the whole club within 12 months. the only reason for sacking mourinho for me would be if the players stop playing for him and he is losing the dressing room. other than that,no thanks i'd still rather have mourinho despite him winning fuck all in his second season.
we all got used to sir alex.we all probably would want again someone like that.so why not giving mourinho the chance?

Let's just end this little experiment shall we? Reckon a 'Season's Expectations' thread would do alright if someone wants to make the effort.
And none of this 'sack the manager if ...' nonsense please.
EDIT: Even better idea from Stew, is that we wait until we've made all our signings, then we make a call on what the expectations/predictions for the season ahead may be.
Good plan? Good plan, glad we're all on board.
