Does amuse that so many still don't rate Scotty. Think he's very good and love his attitude, the attitude every one of our players should have.
Love seeing our youngsters performing and doing well. Every goal on the tour so far has either been scored or assisted by an academy player, brilliant to see.

He’s desperately unlucky but we can’t rely on him. Either the physios are not managing his condition correctly or he's just one of those players. Unless we can keep him on the pitch then he offers very little. I know it's harsh but we can't rely on someone who might only play a handful of games every year.

The core of that team is still so weak. Victor and Pogba are great (when Pogba plays properly anyway), but the other CB, McTominay and Periera all either have a long way to go or are nowhere near good enough. A real shame as the team surrounding it is a good one. I couldn’t disagree more with you about Scott. I'm not dismissing him or Andreas. I like him - he works hard which is a nice change of pace in this side. He could really step up, but I haven't seen the evidence (based off last season) that he's ready to play to a top-4 standard every week. He's better than Matic, but that's not saying much. He may well become that player this season, and it looks like he certainly has the chance, but I don't think he's there just yet. I rate him, but not as much as others here. Put it this way - how many top 10 sides from last year would he start for? Above us, I can't see anywhere but Arsenal (today vs. Spurs was a friendly before anyone says he bossed their midfield). Below, he's not breaking into Leicester or Wolves' sides IMO, and arguably only Everton because they just sold Gueye. I'd love him to take the side by storm, and as things stand he's our second best midfielder, the best if Pogba doesn't show up. I just think that's more an indictment of how incredibly average most of our midfield options are than it is praise of Scott.

But they also have Keita, Winjaldum and Fabinho for a midfield three. Also, whilst I agree that Henderson is overrated, he did play a key part in a CL winning midfield. Sometimes you just have to give a player their due.

Because most young players do with experience and more regular game time. He’s already come on considerably since making his debut so barring an injury or serious loss of form he’ll get better. And he’s already pretty good. His engine is off the charts, he tackles well and his passing is getting more expansive. Eventually you have to give these players the chance to see what they have. It’s his time and most of us think he’s going to take it. But more crucially so does Ole it seems.

I must admit that when I saw him playing at the start I was quite sceptical about him, and couldn't see him more then a squad filler. But the lad has really impressed me the latest months, and the attitude his shoving is very impressive.

It’s his time and most of us think he’s going to take it. But more crucially so does Ole it seems. No I think he should improve. I said at the start that he was still a long way off - what I meant was a long way off being a genuine top PL midfielder. That’s what we need to aim for and what we could get in the transfer market if Ed weren’t useless (and possibly depending on CL participation). All I’m doing is judging him off the back half of last season, ‘cos you can’t properly judge off friendlies. And like most of our players then, he had his ups and downs, but was ultimately a long way off where we need our starting midfielders to be. He’s young, so has never shown consistent form over a long period - hence I can’t say it was a dip and he is ‘there’, because he hasn’t shown that. Lots of potential, but as I said, how many of our rivals would genuinely start him if they had him?

He could usurp Keita soon depending on both player’s performances though.

One other question - how did the scouse do what they did last year with such an average midfield by your estimation? I know they got obscene amounts of luck, but they also played a lot of very good football sadly.

I know they got obscene amounts of luck, but they also played a lot of very good football sadly. Their attack is lethal and their full backs are great going forward. The midfield was required to do very little, which is why a hump like Henderson can play in it. And lots of luck.
