He was very good that day. But Jack Wilshere dominated a much better Barca side a decade earlier and came to nothing. What young talented players like Scott need is consistency, and that’s what I haven’t seen from him yet. He may well achieve it soon, I just don’t think he’s there right now. The problem is that consistency is dependent on regular starts, so we either accept that and allow him the platform to progress or hedge our bets and bring in someone else who is more experienced. I think if we hold any candle for the academy we have to give Scott the chances now. Sure, he may plateau and prove to be a archetypal squad player, but without that risk we'll never really know. We need to do that with a lot of players this season. Grow them now, benefit in a season or two. We haven't had this much academy talent since the early 90s imo.

For me Scott starts ahead of Matic from now on. I like Matic but we're far too slow when he plays these days. Midfield 3 should be Scotty - Pogba - Periera/Fred i would even go Scotty Pogba Mata/Gomes against lesser opponents

I don't get to see any academy football so it's been a very pleasant surprise to see the pre season this year.

I wanna see Gomes play more than Lingard. Gomes has played a lot as a #6 for the academy he could play there alongside McT and Pogba as the play maker I.e Xavi

Don't see Gomes being overly used this season, can see him getting some games time in a few cup games perhaps. He'd get thrown around like a rag doll in the league so a bit early yet. Still, can't wait to see more of the lad.
Must admit although its only preseason I'm genuinely looking forward to the season more now because of how these academy players have performed. Especially Greenwood and Axel.

Moutinho is .1m taller. I prefer Gomes as #10 anyways I think we could do with his intricacies around the area. That goal was superb. Proper close control and good finish

I get the feeling Gomes will get his games this year. He is way more physically capable than some of you are giving him credit. I was in that camp last summer but he has made strides this season.
I would like him to maybe go on loan to the Championship though, I think it could be the making of him.

I think he’s a type of player who will play better with better players around him. He didn’t look too bothered about size against inter and he was getting stuck in himself

He’d be massacred in central midfield in the premier league however so I’m not even sure why this is a discussion. It’s never goin* to happen nor should it. Get him close to the opposition area to cause damage not in midfield to get booted all over the park.
