He was done during his second Chelsea spell. The league caught up to his tactics and he didn't evolve with it.
Real broke Jose. It was clear at the time, and even though I wanted him here, I said it before he joined us. Since Inter, he's had more failed seasons than successful ones - two failures at Real, two at Chelsea, two here, and now probably one at Spurs (last season was probably a write off). He hasn't trusted a team to defend the way he wants since Real, I think. His best teams have been set up with his confidence that they were the better team or could defend to his standard with incisive attackers. Where his teams would go a goal up and look for a second even maybe third before settling in, his sides go a goal up and almost immediately retreat. Porto - Best in Portugal/'Jose' in Europe with Deco, Derlei and McCarthy Chelsea v.1 - Best team in the League by a mile for two seasons Inter - Full Jose with Sneijder, Eto'o and Milito Real Madrid - Initially inferior to Barca but came back brilliantly to meet that challenge. Honestly think he believed he was going to replace Fergie and he's been scrabbling around for confidence and belief since.

Mica Richards doing his best to dissuade Kane from joining United, if he were to decide that he wants to leave Spuds.

Chelsea #1 were utterly awesome,I hated that we were “linked” with players like Robben, Drogba etc, and Abramovitch merely went out and bought them.

There was a time when Jose swept all before him, but his time is up IMHO. His brand of reactive football, relying on forfeiting possession and waiting for errors from the opposition, seems pretty obsolete now. He hasn’t innovated and instead turned into a bitter old man shouting at the sky.
It’s sad, as I really liked the guy but his latest incarnation combines tactical rigidity, a blinkered refusal to change and constantly throwing his own players under the bus to disguise his own managerial shortcomings.

José with a massive “Fuck You” to Ole in his post-match presser, over his comments re that cheating fuck Son ,in that “if that were my son (Son) I wouldn’t feed him” I think that Ole was remarkably restrained.

Good to see Ole annoyed for a change and rightly so.

Interestingly, the Athletic had an article about his time here today, and said that all their sources agreed that he had genuinely already agreed to go to Chelsea by the time he was told about Fergie. I usually hear that he cried when he found out we were going for Moyes, but maybe he cried as he realised he'd missed out by going back to Chelsea instead.

Spot on, he needs to stop job hopping and take a proper break and revaluate his methods. His negative tactics swung the season for them. Remember the Liverpool game back before Xmas? They were looking strong, yet he went to Anfield and shut up shop against a second string Liverpool team and basically fell down the league afterwards. He’s been a great coach but the great coaches also adapt, Fergie was a master in that sense. I think he should go manage Portugal and give us all a break.

Yeah, that Liverpool game was the beginning of the end, esp as we’d had a really good run of results just before. It’s like he deliverately pressed the self-destruct button just to massage his ego.

For those first couple of years they really seemed relentless. Mourinho would have them raced away after ten games and the League felt over by October. They drilled teams too. It would be 2-0, 3-0 every other week. Seemed hopeless, but Fergie is a genius.

As someone has said already I think Jose's problems stem from him not being able to roll with the times, players are not like they used to be, he can't keep using the same mind games with them and expect the same results....
After spurs I think he may struggle for a top job, maybe he'll be better at a lesser team again and do better than could be expected with them, ala Porto

The comeback impressed me, once we had our foot on the their throats (no offence meant in anyway) we didn’t let up and we kept at them. Pogba when he wants just doesn’t get knocked off the ball, Mason hitting form, Cavani movement, Henderson standing tall in goal. Welldone lads, keep at it
