Bit harsh on Villarreal. They were in it to win it and correctly figured out that keeping things tight and giving us plenty of the ball gave them much more of a chance than being more expansive and risking getting hit by us on the counter.
Not their fault we didn’t have enough creativity or imagination to break them down and made it so easy for them to defend by only really upping the tempo for a short spell after the goal. Obviously they tried to disrupt our rhythm and slow the game down with the help of the referee. But we should have still had the quality to overcome that.

We’re genuinely so easy to play against. Once Socieadad shot themselves in the first leg the book was written on us. This is why I’m reluctant to praise Emery’s coaching ability and tactical nouse like many were doing yesterday. A child knows exactly the way to play against us. Villarreal weren’t particularly good last night, they didn’t have to be. Just sit back and hang in there. Absolutely nowt to do with Signor “Good Ebening” we beat our-fucking-selves ,and I would also wonder if a little bit of complacency had crept in prior to the game. |

Venting.
After Villareal made their substitutions and we didn't - I did genuinely think we were aiming for penalties and were going to lose.
Here are my takeaways from the frustrating game yesterday:
1. We were on good momentum after we equalised, we were pegging them back, but were running out of steam when Villareal made their subs after that and Ole & Co. failed to match up with them tactically.
2. Rashford was poor, obviously burnt out. Pogba played without a soul or asked to play in a soulless capacity. Lindelof is not United material, melts like a Lindor choc.
3. Ole sitting down. I think I'd rather see McClaren with his brolly. Jokes aside, what's that about? Show some excitement, show some anger, show some passionate, show some resolution - any strong emotion; any presence. Make your team see you want it as much as (some) they do! Tell them what they're doing excites you! It's part of management.
4. Even if I were to believe Ole is a tactical substitution moron... No subs even with our players cramping up and falling all over the place is really quite a pisstake and lack of a United ethos to me. Did we make one sub before 90 mins before our 91st min? It's rhetorical.
5. Yeah, we have deadwood and deadweights around the team - but we had the superior team and also a superior backup line. Why did we play like we wanted to go to penalties just to have our backsides handed to us.
6. Ole kept De Gea on for the penalties when he was arguably at his worst form and lowest confidence level; De Gea is not a penalty goalkeeper, he doesn't dive with conviction during penalties (this my analysis of his style of goalkeeping for penalties). Getting Henderson on would have played on the minds of our oppositions as well as though we had already done our homework on their takers. Henderson also has a more aggressive mindset and would have done slightly better to put players off. Result? De Gea confidence is already shattered, but this definitely makes sure it doesn't return for a good while longer. I speak about this at length because this is a position I'm passionate about.
7. Inspiring, motivating the team is part of management. Discouraging to see Villareal huddling, while we didn't do much of that except Bruno doing the team talk during extra time or before penos (couldn't remember, I was covering my eyes in disbelief).
8. When Ole made the first sub? Fred. I would have gone to VDB and Diallo and told them this was the very moment I was waiting to bring him in for and let them run to the ground for the last 30 mins or normal time, or 30 mins of extra time.

Good god, just seen the final highlights from last night on BBC North West Tonight (from Manchester), I was just calming down a bit too!
Also agree with most on here ,you can’t blame a goaly for missing a penalty.
That’s plain stupid.
Also this damned online abuse aimed at black players makes my blood absolutely boil.

We've just gone back into a fucking lockdown over here.
So obviously I went out last night before it started.
