Erik isn't a firefighter type of manager. But we shouldn't really need one once we upgrade the squad and get to the bottom of the injury problem so it doesn't recur next season.
Yes he should have done a better job this season papering over the cracks and showed the same kind of pragmatism he showed in the final games and the cup final.
But I can understand his frustration when he wants to play a certain way. And as mentioned Liverpool had a bad season with injuries a few years back and that season Ole finished above Klopp in the table!
And injuries haven't been the only destabilizing factor. The Glazers dragged out the takeover process so it wasn't concluded until just before Christmas and all that speculation must have affected the players. Then second half of the season INEOS refused to give Erik any public backing so its only natural the media started to speculate over who the next manager would be. And if players think the manager is on the way out it undermines his authority and unsettles the players as well.
Unfortunately I think it is much too late even if INEOS did want to go back on their decision. The trust is already broken.

Personally I want ETH to stay one more season, the owners to help build the players around younger talent to see if he is capable of coaching here. The first thing this ownership needs to do is hire a new medical team so we can figure out if some of the chronically injured players are ever gonna be able to play.
What I don't want is this to be drug out longer than it needs to be.... if you want him gone then do it soon and replace him with some one the next day or come out and say he is our guy for another season. We have a team to build and this can't happen with a manager merry go round.

Lets not forget that after the LC final we were absolute dogshit for the rest of the season, it's not just this season we've been wank. Buzzing that we won the cup, but not going to let that cloud what I've thought for the majority of the season. EDIT: If he does stay, I'll back him until i can't anymore.

I’ve been very much along the lines of replacing him for the last few weeks and even in the immediate aftermath of the FA Cup win, I was quietly thinking that it was still time for a change.
But I’ll say this. With all the pressure he’s been under the last couple of weeks, he has never appeared more confident. Maybe he knows he’s got nothing to lose.
The speech on the pitch after Newcastle seemed a bit cringey at the time, but now on reflection, he’s effectively given his team talk for the cup final in public. Before that, he came and wrestled Bruno away from media to join the group for his speech. Some of the players will have taken something from that. Looks clever now.
Then onto Brighton where he tested his false 9 system ahead of the cup final. Could’ve really turned up and wanked that game off, but he used it to have a look at his lineup for the weekend after. We probably all questioned it, but like the speech, it now looks smart.
All that shit came out in the days before Wembley. He responded with an interview for the Dutch press that was bullish.
We all know what happened in the game itself. Following that he came on TV and challenged Shearer, saying pundits have been unfair on him and the team. Shearer shat himself. He moved onto ITV and although he had fun with Roy Keane, he still told Roy in no uncertain terms that he himself had struggled with management.
The players clearly haven’t all given up on him. He shared a few minutes with Luke Shaw after the game as well as the youngsters he’s brought through. Martinez lifted him up at the final whistle. Jonny Evans demanded the trophy be passed down the line to the manager before anyone else got a go.
His final salvo was in the press conference where he’s said, whatever happens here I’ll just go somewhere else and win trophies because that’s what I do.
We’ve not seen enough of this bloke over the last two years. Too reserved, too respectful. He may have waited too long to show this side of his personality. Regardless of how it plays out now, fair play to him. Two trophies in two years is the closest thing we’ve had to sustained “success” since Sir Alex left.

Similar with 'interim' Ole, had nothing to lose and just fucking went for it, as soon as he got the permanent job, completely changed.

Reckon INEOS have little to lose in keeping Ten Hag for at least another 6 months.
His stock with the fanbase is high, Mitten had a poll on twitter and around 85% of respondents want to keep him as United manager.
Say he totally bombs and United are 6/7th by Jan, who cares?
Presumably with their (INEOS) structure, and proper recruitment, they'll have had a hand in strengthening the squad in their image anyway.
Also, he's brought through Kobbie and Garnacho, signed Martinez + Hojlund, so you could say he's already made an impact in shaping the staring XI moving forward. Yes, some of his signings have been shit, but as I've said before I really don't expect my manager to be a world-class global scout too. That comes down to having incompetent people in the structure around him as well.
From reports yesterday, the "leaked" news of his sacking could well have been a total fabrication as apparently the season review is only happening this week.

Let's also not forget that the squad was thin last season as well and it was around that time after the league cup win that we started getting suspensions and injuries to key players. Casemiro being the big one that was missing most games, and it was in those games that we were quite bad.
I think what ETH says to the media post match and what he really thinks arent the same. After the Crystal Palace game he gave a post match interview where I think everyone was was scratching their head like what the heck was that? But when you see his post match after the cup final with MUTV he called it as it is saying how shit they played in that game.
It is all part of his management. If this was Mourinho he would have thrown everyone under the bus which was his style of management.
It is clear the team does play for ETH otherwise we would not have gotten the win at City.

I’ve been Ten Hag out for weeks, possibly months but I’ve changed my mind. Unlike previous managers, it’s clear that the players haven’t given up on him. Give him one more chance under the new structure and let’s see if Sunday’s cup win can be his Mark Robins moment. We have nothing to lose with the type of manager’s names that are being thrown around as replacements.

We need to stop dumping managers and give them time to get their team. Everyone keeps harping on about bad transfers but tell me which team has had 100% good transfers? Even the likes of Klopp and Pep have had duds. Poch for example had many duds in the Spurs team that were signed when he was there.
So I dont get this he signed Anthony, so he should go? But he also brought in Martinez who has been superb. With him missing 90% of the season clearly had an impact on the team

Also, I actually couldn't believe it had been that long but when Ten Hag took over United hadn't won a trophy in 6 (!!!) years - he's won 2 cups in 2 years.
Had to deal with Ronaldo's departure (whether you agree or not), and Sancho's circus, along with (statistically) the worst injury situation in the league this year.
Backing him may allow us to further drain the player-power swamp, which is worth it on its own.
Found it hillarious how all the pundits questioned why we couldn't see that level of performance consistently, Varane and Licha were literally never fit simultaneously!

It is also funny that some on here thinks he should have found a way around this because he is a that good. But which top manager has under the circumstances? Liverpool had a shit season last year when they had key players missing and everyone is saying Klopp only second to Pep in the league. He didnt have to face 15 different CB combinations nor a thin squad with 45 separate injuries in the season with 1 recognized fit striker and no LB not to mention all the stuff you just said around the player circus.
I still have faith he will come good. He has shown he can win things even when we have been shit all season. We need proper recruitment to realise his project. Will be gutted if we let him go and bring someone like Thomas Frank, McKenna or Poch who have no proven record or a 2 year come in and fuck off kind of manager in Tuchel. Thank Fuck Conte is going to Napoli so he's out of the picture.

Take out the cup final which was great. Ask yourself 2 questions. Were you glad to see the season end ? Would this set of results be acceptable under any other manager?
Let the dust settle, come to a mutual agreement and let him go out on a high.
Deep down you know this is the best way to proceed.

Good points, put Pep in his shoes with that squad depth and he'd have an aneurysm!

I know you can't compare, and this has been repeated over and over, but SAF finished 11th, 2nd, 11th, 13th and then 6th in his first few years at United before kicking on.
That's three successive seasons out of the top 4 after having finished top 4 for 5 seasons before he arrived.
Convinced that 75% of the contemporary fanbase would have sacked Fergie, maybe more.
