I haven't believed anything in the media for years and don’t get upset/excited until it’s confirmed by an official source. Doesn’t relieve frustration, but saves a lot of blood pressure fluctuations! 😆
I think he deserves this chance, hopefully without the distractions of the shit-storm that’s been swirling around him in the past.

For those worried about the rumoured new contract. It is pretty obvious that the reason INEOS are pushing it (rather than simply exercising the 1 year extension clause in his existing contract) is that they want to get him to agree to a much lower salary and a revised job description as head coach rather than manager.
And it is a hard one for Erik. If he doesn't agree to a new contract then it becomes easier for INEOS to sack him if things start going wrong because his existing contract expires next summer. But if he agrees then he's effectively making his demotion official.

Pochettino would have been my choice. Not sure why INEOS seemed keener on Tuchel who comes with a lot of baggage. But anyway I'm OK giving Erik the benefit of the doubt and seeing how he does in his 3rd season working under the INEOS structure. Last season was dreadful aside from the FA Cup run. Some mitigating factors: defensive injuries, Casemiro and Rashford's shocking decline in form, Mainoo injured first half of the season, Mount injured pretty much all of the season, Hojlund finding his feet and Onana's difficult start. My main concern with Erik is style of football. Transition football is risky and requires very good players to execute it effectively. But hopefully INEOS can steer him to a more possession based approach and bring in players suited to that style. He also needs to stop putting faith in underperforming players and give other players a chance. Amrabat was underutilised last season and when it was clear Casemiro was finished should have been drafted in. It is criminal how little gametime Amad got with both Rashford and Antony disappointing all season. There need to be standards and if you don't perform you get dropped. Totally agree about Amad. I’m not sure we need another right sided option with him around. He just needs more game time. Amrabat was decent in the last few weeks. Didn’t really get a fair shake imo…

Speaking to NOS, Ten Hag revealed: 'The club management came to me while I was on holiday in Ibiza. They suddenly showed up on my doorstep and told me they wanted to continue with me. As in any organisation, it is wise to evaluate. Manchester United did that too. The new owner is new to football, he has taken his time. They spoke with Thomas Tuchel, but came to the conclusion they already have the best manager."
More fighting talk from Erik. With a few digs at INEOS. Obviously he will need to back it up with results next season. But it is good he is standing up for himself.

That won’t end well. its like your boss saying to you “I have scouted far and wide for your replacement because I don’t think you are up to the job but there was nobody available and even the one that was turned us down so I am sticking with you”

Tuchel was widely reported as having been spoken to but this was described as ‘tittle tattle’ by some. Don’t believe everything of course but sometimes we should pay attention.

And there is more from Erik!
"They have indeed told me that they have spoken to other managers.
"That is not even allowed in the Netherlands.
"Then it is forbidden to talk to other coaches if there is still a trainer."

If the above reports are true then if I was ETH I would have walked as soon as they told me.

Also they told him they were gonna talk to others, I am hopeful he backed himself as the best candidate at present and from what we are hearing that's the conclusion INEOS came to aswell.

You don't think companies specifically large corporation don't take interviews when things aren't going well for an employee and are thinking about getting rid of them because they 100% do. I was in a management position for a fortune 500 company here in the states and saw it more than once.
ETH can take it however he wants, but the fact is he was poor last season in a bunch of ways as well as given a shit hand in others. New owners had every right to evaluate the situation logically. They came to him and were honest about it and said we want you to be our guy. I can respect it. Hopefully ETH takes it like a mature adult and shows it was the right decision by taking this team to the next level.

The issue Erik has (and I sympathise) is that at the same time they were supposedly "reviewing" his performance they were interviewing potential replacements. It is hardly a vote of confidence. Erik keeping his job doesn't mean INEOS think he is the right man for the job. All it means is that they couldn't find anyone they liked better who was available (which ruled out Southgate and a host of other managers) and interested (which ruled out Tuchel who walked away from further talks).
And it makes it hard because for all the talk of a 3 year project Erik knows that he is just a run of bad results/performances away from another review and sounding out of potential replacements. That makes it very hard for him to implement any changes that may require 1 step back and 2 steps forward.

It just means the timing wasn't right with Southgate and Tuchel wasn't interested in further talks. It might just mean that they decided he was the best man for the job…
