IF we'd have lost yesterday as expected, hardly anyone would've said keep the manager, we'd all be talking about finishing 8th with a negative goal difference. Mad what a one off cup game can do to people. its not a one off cup game. its 2 trophies in 2 years. beating Liverpool and City along the way. Using a similar argument why did our fans turn on Jose so quickly? Let’s be honest here, our fans are far more forgiving if they like the manager. Let’s put that out there and be completely honest.

I’ve been very much along the lines of replacing him for the last few weeks and even in the immediate aftermath of the FA Cup win, I was quietly thinking that it was still time for a change. But I’ll say this. With all the pressure he’s been under the last couple of weeks, he has never appeared more confident. Maybe he knows he’s got nothing to lose. The speech on the pitch after Newcastle seemed a bit cringey at the time, but now on reflection, he’s effectively given his team talk for the cup final in public. Before that, he came and wrestled Bruno away from media to join the group for his speech. Some of the players will have taken something from that. Looks clever now. Then onto Brighton where he tested his false 9 system ahead of the cup final. Could’ve really turned up and wanked that game off, but he used it to have a look at his lineup for the weekend after. We probably all questioned it, but like the speech, it now looks smart. All that shit came out in the days before Wembley. He responded with an interview for the Dutch press that was bullish. We all know what happened in the game itself. Following that he came on TV and challenged Shearer, saying pundits have been unfair on him and the team. Shearer shat himself. He moved onto ITV and although he had fun with Roy Keane, he still told Roy in no uncertain terms that he himself had struggled with management. The players clearly haven’t all given up on him. He shared a few minutes with Luke Shaw after the game as well as the youngsters he’s brought through. Martinez lifted him up at the final whistle. Jonny Evans demanded the trophy be passed down the line to the manager before anyone else got a go. His final salvo was in the press conference where he’s said, whatever happens here I’ll just go somewhere else and win trophies because that’s what I do. We’ve not seen enough of this bloke over the last two years. Too reserved, too respectful. He may have waited too long to show this side of his personality. Regardless of how it plays out now, fair play to him. Two trophies in two years is the closest thing we’ve had to sustained “success” since Sir Alex left. Well Said! The 5 years we went without a trophy is clearly lost on some here.. It was lost on some when they were bitching and moaning about coming second to City on 81 points after 2(3) trophies the previous season. A team that was cheating then btw.

Erik made it quite clear that the season review has already happened and he left on holiday yesterday. So that is just INEOS trying to save face. Nothing is official so they can reverse the decision. And if following the FA Cup win most of the fans and most of the players want Erik to stay then that is something they will have to take into account. Then again Chelsea didn't care that the fans and players wanted to keep Pochettino.
I like the new bullish Erik too. Erik is the only man in the new structure who knows how to win trophies without cheating. He needs to tell INEOS the way he wants to play, the profile of players he needs to play that way, and if they aren't going to support him then he will find a club that will. Because if they aren't going to publicly and privately back him then all it will take is for a string of bad results and the rumours will start again and they'll hang him out to dry again and Erik might retreat into his shell again.
Erik has also been way too soft on the players. We saw on Saturday that they can execute a game plan and play for the team. So if they start lapsing into bad habits and become lazy and selfish and ill disciplined again then Erik needs to be ruthless and drop players regardless of status. Hopefully he will have a better squad next season and fewer injuries so he will be able to do so. But this season he showed far too much faith in Casemiro and Rashford when he should have given Amrabat and Amad more game time. Rashford was good in the final but that just reinforces the point that he's been distracted this season as it shouldn't take a FA Cup final to focus him. And the focus should always be on picking a team that can win the game at hand rather than pandering to big name players and that was the message Erik sent loud and clear when he joined the club benching Ronaldo and Maguire and we need that approach next season. With genuine competition for places and consequences when you don't perform or don't play for the team it will quickly lick us into shape.

Also the difference with Jose is that Jose lost the dressing room and did his usual thing of taking the credit when the team was winning and criticizing the team and picking on individual players when the team started losing.
The players have been fighting all season for Erik. If they'd been slacking off we wouldn't have sustained so many injuries and we wouldn't have won so many games in extra time. And Erik has showed a lot of class by taking all the heat and refusing to blame the players or criticized any of them even though he could justifiably feel let down by the likes of Antony, Rashford and Casemiro.

IIRC his Stella signing last summer played for just 5 minutes in the cup final which was in turn 5 minutes more than his Stella signing from the year before. Ineos are not just going to give him more money to piss away on shite.

Fuck me, there were so many injuries because they were behind the manager and running their tits off. Name me one person who has ever said anything close to that this season

Completely understand both sides of the argument and it would be stupid of me to be critical of people wanting him out after how adamant I was in agreement.
Honestly can’t explain myself other than saying I’ve just had a change of heart. Sunday reminded me how sweet it can be to get one over on one of your biggest rivals with a trophy on the line, and that maybe the man who helped give us one of the biggest highs we’ve experienced post-Fergie deserves a little more time to get it right.

That’s making a decision one 1 game in which we beat a team that had swatted us aside like cannon fodder twice this season. Thankfully Ineos don’t think this way.
