Pay the release clause, pay him good wages (going to be a lot higher than it is now) and get the job done.
There isn’t enough time to sit on this decision. There’s a league and European cup campaign to salvage and if he does that’s the money recouped straight away.

Yeah we need to just pay them what we want (within reason). We can't be having another Ashworth situation. And we are inconveniencing them by poaching their manager early in the season when he's runaway leader in the Portuguese League and also on course to get through to the Champions League knockout stages with all the extra revenue that brings.
Get him started straight away and he has several months to whip the squad into good shape and identify the profile of players he needs for next season to take us up a few levels. That will make for a much better planned summer transfer window and a squad that can get back into top 4 next season and kick on from there.
And if his past record is anything to judge by he might even surprise everyone and get us into top 4 this season. This is a guy who comes with a 71% win record and has basically won practically every game this season. And it should be child's play to him to turn around our Europa campaign and get us into the knock out stages.

Don't give a monkeys about the city links, I don't see Pep going anywhere in the near term. A lot of uncertainty around City isn’t there. Nobody knows the extent of the punishment and Pep’s decision probably depends on that. Amorim might not want to sit about waiting on the off-chance. He fucked off in the middle of a season to discuss taking Moyes’ job, so don’t think he’ll be turning down our advances here. He clearly wants the move to the bigger league. And we probably wouldn’t be speaking to him if we weren’t willing to pay his clause. I see city getting a slap on the wrists nothing more

His record in Portugal is pretty incredible both with Braga and Sporting Lisbon and he's managed a few scalps in European football as well. Some uncomfortable parallels with Erik. Also dominated a minor European league and managed a few big scalps in Europe. And comes with a reputation for being tactically innovative and the problem is our players seem to struggle following even basic tactical instructions. Also he favours a back three and we struggle to field a fit pair of centre backs let alone a trio. But there are also parallels with a young Jose and I think he has the charisma and passion and confidence that Erik lacked and that will hopefully get our players fired up. I also don't think he will be as tolerant as Erik was and if players don't perform they won't last long under him. So he could be just what we need. He also has a good knowledge of the Portuguese league which has always been a very fertile field for recruitment and quite a few of his current players could be good additions such as Inacio and Hjulmand. Hopefully we can get him signed up as soon as possible. He wanted to leave Sporting this summer and if we pay the compensation Sporting can have no complaints. Played against us about 15 years ago, For Benfica, along with United old boys, Nico Gaitan and Ezequeil Garay, so sure they've got him up to speed on the club...

I just don’t love it if I’m honest. Very green manager and this is a huge step up similar to Ten Hag coming from Ajax. Ten Hag had a far better resume But here we go… In fairness to you, it can’t have been easy constantly defending Ten Hag on here, particularly lately. And you deserve credit for backing your beliefs. But it’s time to let this go.

He would require to be a nailed on starter and with the weird mix of players that we have, I’m not sure he’d get that. Hojlund has to be given a fair chance under good coaching. Not even sure what role zirkzee will be asked to play. Giving this man an extra year is proving to be amateurish and disastrous.

There’s something really funny about Yoro being signed during ETH’s reign but never actually playing for him and eventually resurfacing under an entirely different manager

Shaw will be dusting his boots off too I don’t think he is yet, maybe he’ll miss the whole kerfuffle and just plough on in blissful ignorance?

It would have been nice if Ruben Amorim had some experience with a proper big club , but his record seems to be really good and we cant afford to wait around.
Get him in asap so that he will get time to know the league and the players.

Yeah definitely an advantage if he can join straight away so he has several months to find his feet and get used to the league in a season where expectations are pretty low after the start we've had.
