im not killing off our kids but i dont want to see richardson being given chances as he is now.. id rather see eagles in there more often because he is older than cristiano and rooney but yet he continues to believe he does not need to improve.. yes sorry i've just done an edit...

We've got some decent youngsters but unfortunately they're all on loan so of no use to us right now, it's the players that are supposed to be beyond that level of "young and talented but needs to mature" that were supposed to be out there tonight, lets face it if they're not good enough now then it's unlikely that they're going to magically develop into some world class player.

I miss the days when the quality of our bench used to put fear in to teams, never mind the huge talent we fielded.

Right now i'm pining for the days when we had squad players of the ilk of P. Neville, Butt, and Blomqvist et al. Now we've got pass-the-hot-potato merchants with no character or quality.

Thats got to be the biggest surprise of the cup so far, but I cant fault Southend. Their freekick was brilliant... couldnt have asked for more from any Premiership player. Our keeper did well to get as close to it as he did. The papers will be talking about United first team tomorrow, when in reality, Rooney and Ronaldo were our only first team players out there. Ronaldo had a good game, but Rooney was poor. The majority of his passes went astray, he didnt really look on it tonight. What I'm about to say isn't really a moan at the result, but things I feel need to be taken in to consideration. Rooney was fouled in the lead up to their goal. The replay showed it from behind, and it just looked like Rooney fell over. But when the camera showed it from the other angle, quite clearly, Rooney had that players hand shoving his face, (United fans will remember Rooney getting a three match ban last season for putting his hand in Diouf's face). Rooney should have had a penalty, when the lad from Hackney (ok, he wasnt from Hackney, but he might as well have been with the get up he was wearing) headbutted him in the back of the head in the area. And what the FUCK was going on when their keeper got a yellow card for getting his studs changed?? All in all, their keeper was Man of the Match, and saved plenty of amazing shots that not a lot of Premiership keepers would get to. This often happens when lower league teams are up against top dogs. Unlucky for David Jones to see his shot hit the inside of the woodwork and come out. I havent seen United dominate a game so heavily in a second half and not go on to score for a long while... it was a big thing last season when we went through our slump. Southend deserved a goal for their first half play, and we deserved one for our second half. But we didn't get it, so I cant complain too heavily about the result. The upsides are that we have less games to think about now. Plus, who gives a shit about the Worthless Cup anyway? ;D  Southend United Team Statistics Manchester United 1 Goals 0 1 1st Half Goals 0 3 Shots on Target 6 1 Shots off Target 10 3 Blocked Shots 6 2 Corners 11 14 Fouls 9 5 Offsides 2 2 Yellow Cards 2 0 Red Cards 0 45.6 Possession 54.4

That's another thing about tonight that really annoyed me, looking at the stats Scotts put up we had 11 corners (not to mention 3 or 4 fouls) and the delivery was piss poor everytime, we may have been shit from open play but you would hope that we are at least able to strike a static ball in to a decent area, but obviously not.

Still, where was the height today? Ronaldo, Wes and O'Shea were the only players we had to aim it for.

I had written an A4 essay on it hehe. Saves me the bother of typing it up. My key points; Flahaven was fantastic, struggling Premiership teams will be mad not to snap him up after tonight's performance. He is quality... Uriah Rennie showed us once again why he is labelled the worst referee in the country. He was shambolic. Booking Flahaven for wasting time was ludicrous. I'm not happy about him not giving us the penalty. I'm sure if he had of given it, and Rooney had scored, the game would have changed completely. We would have gone on and won it, I'm sure. But booking Flahaven was disgraceful. He needed to change his studs. If Flahaven had already been booked in the game, and he sent him off for that, it would have made the game a total farce. He's an idiot, likes to get his own limelight, and I hope he never referees a United game again.

i cant tell you how sick i feel at this result i dont care if it was not our 1st 11 there were 10 internationals out there tonight and the players should be ashamed but i must say well done to southend who did what they had to to beat us and it worked i can only imagine how good they must feel i knew it would be a bigger test than crewe! at least after everyone has stopped laughing at us we can concentrate on the thing we really want THE LEAGUE. must say i cant wait untill the transfer window so we can buy some real quality like someone else said on here we look very weak when we have a few injuries. but being a united fan u must take the rough with the smooth and we all know the good times will return plus we wont even remember this defeat when we have won the league!
UNITED FOREVER!
