BBC:Ferguson sure Rooney will shine
Ferguson feels Wayne Rooney is back to his best Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes Wayne Rooney can provide the inspiration in Tuesday's Champions League tie against Lille. Rooney has scored four goals in his last five games but has not found the net in Europe since his debut hat-trick for United against Fenerbahce in 2004.
Ferguson said: "It will happen for Wayne, he will explode eventually.
"I hope he can take into this game the form he is showing now. In the last few weeks he has come back to his best."
Ferguson added: "We were saying earlier in the season about how Wayne had not scored and then he had that hat-trick at Bolton.
Everyone is full of confidence and we do feel we have the potential to win the Champions League
"The stage will not affect Wayne. His temperament is fantastic for a young lad. I have no worries about that."
United have lost their last two away games in the Champions League - against Celtic and FC Copenhagen.
"We do not want to be making the mistakes we did in those two games," explained Ferguson.
"The players know if we don't take chances in these big ones then you will be left to suffer and this is a big one."
If United overcome Lille they will be in the last eight for the first time since 2003.
And French striker Louis Saha is determined that his side do not suffer another early exit.
"There is a desire in the dressing room to put what happened in the last three years right," said Saha.
"We are playing even better now, everyone is full of confidence and we do feel we have the potential to win the Champions League and people outside England feel that way too."

Well it is shaping up to be avery exciting title run in ( probably thebest since 99) and fergie has done wonders this year in pegging chelski down.we aint got any injury worries wich is asolutely amazing considdering we usually have a injures list bigger than an nhs waiting list.Im proud of the boys but our season starts tonight. This is the time of year that we really begin to flex our muscles and get a grip of the the other teams in europe and domesic affairs so i am predicting wewill come awy frm tonights match in france with a 3 nil soreline. rooney (2) and ronaldo (1) will do the buisness for us and fireout a warning that we want our european crown back. For all the good play this year if it was to go all pete tong tonite then i think doubtswould set in as to wether we could finish the job of. but it wont go pete tong an we will win and WE ARE ON COURSE FOR ANOTHER TREBLE OF WHICH COMON BELEIF IS THAT WE CAN DO IT AGAIN.( THE ONLY TEAM IN HISTORY TO DO IT THERE AGAIN WE ARE ONLY TEAM TO WIN 3 MAJORS IN A SEASON).yES FEGIE HAS DONE AGAIN AD BUILT ANOTHER FANTASIC TEAM TO RULE THE ROOST AGAIN

If SAF does he usual 4-5-1 with Rooney on the left that he usually seems to do in Europe then I can see us losing or drawing, because we're usually crap when he does that and it will take a Lille goal for us to change back.
However, if we start with our normal attacking 4-4-2 then I think we should win comfortably, either 2-0 or 3-1.

I think we'll start like that, Fergie's Euro policy is to silence the crowd to start off with, then push on. It's horrible to watch us playing like that, not the way United play best.

People forget we've only won once away in Europe for what? 4 seasons? A draw would be a good result.Preferably a goalless one.

I'm going for 2-1 Utd - Larsson and Scholes
I wanna see us Attack, Attack, Attack tonight with Ronaldo and Giggs being the main culprits
I'm quite nervous about tonight but am so looking forward to it - the business end of the season, you can't beat this time of year
COME ON UTD

My Money's on Saha winning the game for us if he plays. He's got the class in the Champions league to rip Lille apart. Haven't seen anything from Rooney though, I hope that'll change.
2:0 to United Saha to score twice!

i think they will score a spanker from outside the box! 1-0 up then we'll pull it back second half
what i really hope is we thrash them 4 nill - 3 goals in the first 20mins - put it to bed early!

P.s did anyone notice that Ron is top favourite in all our goal-bets? 12/2; Rooney, Larsson and Saha following with 13/2

That whole notion of playing cautiously doesn't work well for us. We need to go out there and play strongly and earn the win.
