Ben Arfa was far from amazing but Benzema was fantastic today and took his goal well with about five players surrounding him.
As for United, we played OK and that was it. I'd have liked to have put 4-4-2 out there and have gone all our for a few more away goals because they didn't look that good.
Giggs played well in the first half and set up Rooney and Scholes who both could have and should have scored really, in the second half we looked like the likely team to score but got hit on the counter with that great goal.
Happy with the result to be honest, no matter who the opposition a 1-1 in knock out phase away from home is a good result because we can take them to OT and beat them easily. Saying that I hope we don't underestimate them though.
My United MOTM would have to be Anderson or Evra.

Thank god, nice to see someone prasing the lads, agree with you lad, evra was outstanding again along with anderson. I thought rooney played a solid game and should have scored, but obviously played his best when tevez came on.

Benzama was pure class, I wouldn't mind to see him at OT over the summer. The Defence was ok, we had Benzama sorrounded and I thought he was closed down but the sly bastard found a way. Not a bad result. any body else think that Junihno looks like the guy from Knocked up?

Predicted a 1 all, can’t say I wasn’t nervous towards the end though. Not a very good performance, but an away goal, so I’m happy. Seth Rogen? Lol. Nah. Juninho needs a shave though. Big grufty.

Didn't get to see the game live (they showed Le Arse) but I've recorded the delayed broadcast to watch later. Judging by the majority of comments on here, I might just fast-forward to 5 mins before the end though!
I would've taken a scrappy 1-1 draw if offered, so am quite happy with the result.
Gotta love Tevez, cometh the moment, cometh the man!

Decent result , we got the crucial away goal. The first half was even, with both sides playing some quick attacking football. Rooney had some good opportuniies to finish but Coupet was upto the task. Lyon looked most threatning from Juninoh and Benzema. second half United owned Lyon in terms of possession ,sadly we couldn't make much use of it The moment of the match, was by far Scholesy's bursting run into the box and shot off Giggsy's pass, brought back memories ..... Can't believe the tactical mess we were in the mid field and hopefully we'll not play 4-5-1 from now on ! I hate the fucking formation and the way every team in the tournament wanting to win by scoring a scrappy one off goal .. It might come . But there is no beauty in it .. ! watching a game well planned and well marked , cancel ling each other is like watching Serena Williams and Venus Williams play five hour five setter !!!

Firstly, a 1-1 draw is a good result away from home; an away goal is crucial. Any win at OT will take us through to the next round. However, I am not a fan of this 4-5-1 formation with Rooney isolated up front. Why was the defense pumping long balls to a lone striker who wasn't winning much in the air? I also think it is time to put Giggs and Scholes out to pasture! Well, not on a permanent basis, but we performed much better when Tevez and Nani came on. I certainly think Scholes is more suited to a 'Super Sub' role these days. I do think that SAF makes sentimental/emotional decisions with these guys i.e. Giggs's 100th Champions League appearance. I know their experience is second to none, but this does not win games. But who knows how this season will pan out? Scholes and Giggs may combine to score the winner in the Champions League Final.....against the dippers!! Now that would be signing-off in style.

I agree about Giggs but not on Scholes yet. Scholes was playing like his usual self before his injury and I think its just a matter of another game or two before he start dictating games again. But Giggs really hasnt been the factor we all want him to be. He started off the season awfully but still retained his spot. He finally started playing better but still doesnt get goals or assists as often as someone of his experience should.
We have Nani now who consistently gets assists and the odd goal here and there. His crossing ability is very good and often causes chaos for the opposition. Fergie says that Scholes and Giggs' experience is invaluable but it wasnt until they got off the field today that we started attacking with a purpose.

Also pretty satisfied with the 1-1 result. As many have said 1-1 is not bad and actually is better for us than Lyon. Fergie has to play 4-4-2 at OT next week. None of this overload the midfield and leave Rooney as a lone striker nonsense. He works best with Tevez or Saha out there and so does Ronaldo

Not a bad result. Lets just hope they don’t score at OT or get the first goal.
It was a solid performance, we didn’t really give them many chances but didn’t create to many ourselves, it seemed like we could have raised the bar a bit but didn’t want to take too many chances.
Tevez should have started and when he came on he proved why, he changed the game for us and got us the crucial goal.
Hopefully Fergie will start playing him more with Rooney in Europe as we do look a better side when going forward and the only time Ferguson has won the CL was with a 4-4-2 for most of the games.
All in all a pretty good day at the office and hopefully we can finish the job off at home.

Something we must keep in mind, although I dislike the 4-5-1 as much as the rest, is that With Saha's injury record, Tevez and Rooney are the only strikers we can rely on, and therefore they can't be expected to play in every game. Especially with Tevez admitting he's tired. That's probably in Fergie's mind as much as anything, when he names the team.

Out of 6 goals in 3 matches before this game, just one of those goals was scored by a player who started last night's game. Poor show.

I was quite encouraged by parts of that.
Last 2 seasons we've seen Fergie play that formation and we've seen United defend and nick a goal on the break. In this game against better opposition, we controlled the majority of it with quite a young side.
The only thing i'm not convinced about is whether the defensive benefits of that formation outweigh what we'd have going forward with Tevez on the pitch alongside Rooney and the extra space that'd create for Ronaldo in a 4-4-2.

This is the first away european game I have seen for a long time, where we totally dominated for long periods of the game. There's a positive. Now to intensify the attack, we must play 4-4-2.
