how do we know that Fergie has been given an open cheque book to bring in whoever he needs to win the league? he probably knows exactly who his targets are and wants to build a brilliant new team. I also think he will buy 2 defensive midfielders to give a stable base and protect the back four and use the likes of ronaldo, rooney, torres? or evern ruud to do the attacking stuff. or he may buy one purley defensive (does dirty work) and one like carrick to spread the passes and set up good moves but woth a defensive mentality as well.

The rumours i tend to believe the most atm are the ones claiming we have agreed deals for people pre world cup.
After the statements clearly made by SAF and David Gill that one or two world class players would be brought in before the world cup it just wouldn't be suprising whatsoever if deals were already done for players involved in the world cup and its simply a case of waiting for them to finish their international commitments.
As for players we're linked to during the tournament, we all know SAF likes to go in for impulse buys of players performing during the world cup, not always successful but he likes it.

Anyone happen to listen to Talk sport during the Spain game, apparently this is what was said: "I think it was that Balauge guy. They interviewed him before the match and he made it clear that Torres will be signing for us. The radio station was Talk Sport 10.89, whole way through the game the commentators were making comments such as: ''this is what Manchester United will be getting'' and after he scored, they said: ''it was top class finish by Torres, who will be joining Manchester United for 25m''. The last time I heard a big story on that radio station concerning United was during Euro 2004, they were the first to mention that Wayne Rooney would be joining United.
Please remember that i'm not the one making these comments, it's what I heard from that sourse and like the rest of you, I don't have a clue whether there's any truth in it or not. So far, Atletico and United haven't confirmed or denied it, so the waiting game continues."I never listen to talk sport so I wouldn't have a clue. That's interesting that. And, Talksport don't usually chat shit like that!...Gabby Logan also mentioned something about United being linked with him but nothing about a done deal!

Well, they say ‘no news is good news’ but in this case, the more news on Torres, the better.

There's no need for disrespecting Ruud like that, but I do think he has a future at United. a 4-2-1-2-1 would be a worthwhile formation if of course we signed Carrick, Diarra, Riquelmé and Torres. Which is possible, except maybe Diarra but you never know.
Carrick - 14 mill Riqueleme - 8 mill+ Diarra - 15 mill+ Torres - 25 mill + is poss, noone knows if 25 would be accepted
thats 62 mill by my reckoning, wishfull thinking comes to mind....and for the last time NO Diarra, why why why do people insist hes going to be the greatest thing to grace green turf, hes CRAP theres much much better than him, stop listening to the bloody papers and watch him, plays in an average at best league, isnt in the France worlc cup squad, doesnt express any love for the club, isnt actually that good, only other club showing interwest is real and lets face it they arent much to go off.
PLEASE forget Diarra

yh, diarra and torres would be too expensive , i think we should ditch diarra and go for torres riquelme and carrick, while they are at a low price, ecpecially Roman

someone said higher up the thread that 25 million is too much for torres!? i for one cant understand the reasoning behind that...even 30 million i think would be acceptable... he is only 22 n this is his second world cup and he played in euro 2004...he has already topped the spanish goalscoring charts twice (maybe as top spaniard), with athletico we are no better than spurs or blackburn... he was spain's top scorer in qualifying...he also ran the show for spain the other day..... oh and barcelona has lost once at home last season....3-1 against athletico and yes he scored two and was man of the match.... also if you put the transfer into context we would pay 25-30 million for a 22 year old striker who will be the best striker in europe for the next 5 years years, while chelski pay for 30 million for a has been on his last big contract...... do the math everyone

If Ruud goes then 25-30 million will not be overpriced for a kid of Torres talents, he was exceptional the other day and as somebody previously quoted if the Chavs pay 30 mill for Schvechenko then Torres would be a steal for 25 mill

Didnt say it was too much, just questioning if we could afford them all, especially as there were reports of Ruud, Torres and Rooney playing, i cant see where we could get all the cash
