Manchester United have launched a £25m swoop for Atletico Madrid's Spain striker Fernando Torres. (Daily Star)
Alright i know this is only from a rag but if its true is anyone pleased or do you think its too much money?

Not seen enough of him to judge really, but i think it would be better to watch him throughout the world cup first as if the 25 million is anywhere near true it can't go much higher if he does well.
Seen rumours SAF wants him to pair up with Ruud and Rooney behind them and although his scoring records aren't great in Spain he contributes to the teams performance greatly.

Ye also he plays for a club worse than UTD so at UTD he will get more oppurtunity etc etc, has a lot of potential, feelings of him are mixed, ive seen a bit of him and think he looks good, hes very fast, can score etc has all the good attributes and is also young, not sure if hes worth 25 mill though, he better have a great world cup lol and lets hope chelski dont go oooooo and bid 40 mill...........

Worth 25 mill? Im not sure, i spose its alright, hes like 21? 22? Has the pace to cause defence nightmares, so as an investment to last a while i spose, with Ronaldo, Rooney, Torres, maybe Ribery, SAF is building a great young squad that will only need tweaking for the next few years to come as we will have everything we need, if he works out, hes worth every penny!

Will be interesting to see how he does today as Spain's main striker, i'm sure SAF will be watching.

Ye keep a close eye, but i dont think we can afford 25 mill for him, was jsut thinking, with that and the carrick bid, doesnt leave any money for anyone else unless the glazers are prepared to open their wallet very widely? 40 mill for torres an carrick?

this taken from TEAMtalk:
If this is true I will be so, so happy. Fergie making up with Ruud AND bringing in Torres. So, Van Nistelrooy, Torres AND Rooney in the same XI.
I think this would give us a great shot of adapting a Barcelona style of play with 4-3-1-2:
-----------------------------------Van der Sar
Neville------------Ferdinand------------Brown/Vidic-------Heinze
--------Ronaldo---------Duscher/Carrick???----------Giggs
-------------------------------------Rooney
----------------van Nistelrooy---------------Torres
That would be sweet, but I would be disappointed for Saha as last season I felt he was getting back to his old Fulham form self. But, this is football for you.

Problem is, Giggs is ageing, though hes been great and loyal hes getting on, neville isnt getting younger, at least there would be competition with saha being on totaion up front, we need to buy more than 2 players.... Torres and Carrick arent going to answer our problems

We’ve not brought in Carrick yet, and already we’re stated to have swooped for Torres, for £25 million? Something doesn’t seem right, speculation, just maybe, but its good news nevertheless. I’d still rather see The Hunter brought in instead, but I’m certainly not going to turn my nose up at Torres.

rumours in the itmes today were that we were nearing completion of Carricks transfer here with a proposed £14 mil, and apprently close to agreeing a SIMILAR fee for Diarra. So it suggests anything less than £20mil for Diarra. That would mean that we are soending a total of around £32mil just on two players, and so i doubt the Torres one is true unless Ruud moves. You really don't think he will bring in another striker and not get rid of one, considering we have Rossi and numerous others coming up the ranks.
