Nah he isn't worth £20m but I hear they have agreed a similar fee to Carrick.

THE MIRROR
The Mirror is suggesting today the Fergie has seen enough to prepare a £25m bid for Fernando Torres. I'm excited at the prospect if this is true.
Carrick & Torres are all but expected to sign. And, this fills me with renewed excitement (if true of course). Young, talented and chances are possible. Atletico Madrid are in need of the cash and £20-25m will be far too much for them to refuse, as for Tottenham it shouldn't be too hard grabbing the player off them should it?

17 June 2006 FERGIE'S IN FOR TORRES By John Cross
MANCHESTER United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been given permission to go ahead with a £25million move for Spain World Cup star Fernando Torres.
Atletico Madrid striker Torres, 22, was Spain's top scorer in their qualifying campaign and has told World Cup team-mates that he will move to Old Trafford.
United had been behind Spurs and Newcastle in the queue of interested clubs but Fergie's fall-out with Ruud van Nistelrooy has led to him looking around at other strikers. Torres has two years left on his contract but Atletico want to cash in.
United have won the race for Norwegian kid Magnus Wolff Eikrem - thanks to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Molde midfielder Eikrem, a product of Solskjaer's soccer school in Norway, will sign a two-year scholarship when he turns 16 in August. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If that's true it's looking good...it says he's told his team mates he is off to OT...I don't think that part is true but you never know.

Well they have the 30 mil we dont to pay for Torres (provided the man utd deal isn't already done) so AC is a probable destination. However it is rumoured that he mentioned to his team mates that he would prefer a move here than AC. I think we require the sale of Ruud + a further 10 - 14 mil for Torres which may be alil out of our league.

He's young, fast and having a great WC...if he wants to come to the prem then United's the place to come to! Let's roll the red carpet and do what we need to do to get him here. Rooney and Torres up front...lethal.

Right now, Ruud and Torres up front with Rooney just sat behind them? Are we going with the tactic that an attack force that good doesnt NEED a central midfield? lol.

I have been waiting until I had seen a bit more of Torres before adding my 5p's worth. Here goes, he looks a very good player when running into spaces behind the defence, but for a biggish lad, his heading needs more work. However, seeing that we do not have a consistently good crosser of the ball (on the wing, Giggs looks set for a more central role), then that aspect of his game can be developed gradually. It would be wonderful to have the creative talents of Riquelme to provide the required supply to Torres. 25 million is worth it if he signs a 5 year contract and scores +/- 120 goals in that time, with the prospect of him staying on beyond that! Go for it Fergie...

Torres would definitely be my number 1 choice for a new striker, but i would wait until we have brought in 2 quality midfielders 1st
and those two in my opinion should be - reo-coker and riquelme
you have the box to box driving young midfielder (also potential captain) in reo-coker and the world class attacking qualities of riquelme
then... i would go and get torres

Few things i also noticed with Torres are his crossing needs a lot of working on, he gets himself into spaces all the time with the ball and plenty of space, then wastes some oppurtunities. He also likes to go towards the left upfront, he pulls away out wide for Spain at least, when put in the centre with Raul on the left he was quiet for half the 2nd half, then put out on left forward again he starts to shine...
