On match of the day they said Arsenal were preparing a 20 million bid amongst a few other clubs......UNITED were not mentioned I have been waiting until I had seen a bit more of Torres before adding my 5p's worth. Here goes, he looks a very good player when running into spaces behind the defence, but for a biggish lad, his heading needs more work. However, seeing that we do not have a consistently good crosser of the ball (on the wing, Giggs looks set for a more central role), then that aspect of his game can be developed gradually. It would be wonderful to have the creative talents of Riquelme to provide the required supply to Torres. 25 million is worth it if he signs a 5 year contract and scores +/- 120 goals in that time, with the prospect of him staying on beyond that! Go for it Fergie... Few things i also noticed with Torres are his crossing needs a lot of working on, he gets himself into spaces all the time with the ball and plenty of space, then wastes some oppurtunities. He also likes to go towards the left upfront, he pulls away out wide for Spain at least, when put in the centre with Raul on the left he was quiet for half the 2nd half, then put out on left forward again he starts to shine...

I never rated Torres before the World Cup but after seeing him play twice I think he is amazing and would be an awsome signing.

news from MARCA, AS has a similar story running with us competiting with Chelsea: Translation comedy provided by Babelfish - look out for the house passing the window comment IT COULD OFFER 37 MILLION EUROS The Manchester United will do ' ofertón' by Towers after the World-wide one By FERNANDO PORRERO · Madrid the Manchester goes to try after the World-wide one to take control of the services of Fernando Towers. For it, the English set prepares a supply of 25 million pounds (about 37 million euros) so that the Athletic one accedes to the crossing of the young colchonera star. Alex Ferguson is convinced that the Boy is the forward who needs the Manchester so that the English club can end the monopoly of the Chelsea in the Premier League. The Manchester is arranged to throw the house by the window and ofertón' by Towers already prepares `. The 37 million euros are a number that will cause that the Athletic one thinks its crossing, mainly, if the player decides after the World-wide one that the moment has arrived for leaving Spain. The World-wide one has relaunched to him The extraordinary match that ` is making 9' del Athletic with Spain has convinced of definitive way al English equipment that thinks that together with Rooney the advantage with more future of all the great ones of Europe can be formed. the rumours are gathering momentum nicelly arent they? he also seems like a loyal level headed lad, as since he started to play for athleti he has been subject to interest from barca, real, chelsea and other big clubs, but to his credit he has stayed there and never publicy said he wanted to leave....so maybe he wont be enticed by chelsea money and prefer to be part of the red revolution...or the empire strikes back as i like to call it

i really hope that £20m deals true as that would imply wed signed him before the world cup and its a done deal. I think after the world cup hes had wed never get him for 20m now.

I want to believe it's a done deal but a few days ago Atletico tabled a one-year contract extension for Torres, would they have done that if the deal was done with United or could it just be something which will have threw others clubs and their own fans off the scent?...
We'll never know til after the World Cup I suppose!...

I'd pick Torres over Ruud simply because I don't think Ruud is going through a good patch personally at the moment, and with our continuing striker problems and injuries we don't have the time to babysit him. Besides if we had to chose between three fit strikers in Ruud, Torres and Rooney, someone would end up very unhappy...
I'm sure that someone will argue that we need cover in that position, but somehow I don't see any of the three mentioned above wanting to be a substitute. We need to get the young players in as it is about time we start thinking about the future rather than just what will get us through next season.
