Mccarthy will be playing for a top 4 club next year. Lets hope it is us,. Or not. Can you really envisage McCarthy battling through a European Cup quarter-final against Bayern Munich? Leading the team in withstanding a seige, a man down, versus Real Madrid in the Last 16? Running the show in the Nou Camp? I can't, so I'd like us to move on and get some real fucking quality into our midfield instead of bargain bucket, second-at-best tier wannabe's. Yeap, love it. |

I can't cut and paste right now but later I'm going to go back to the start of the Dembele thread. Guarantee you similar shite was posted when his name was first mooted. And I guarantee you the very same posters were crying when he went to Spurs.

James Mccarthy is a terrific young player. To suggest he shouldn't be even mentioned for our midfield is pure fucking bullshit. I get the feeling their is a personal slant on the kid that is dimming the view. Any time I have seen him this season I have been impressed.

Strangely, Veratti was signed for peanuts from Pescara who are pretty much the Seria A version of Wigan. He did pretty much the above when having an absolute stormer against Barca. He's now one of the most highly regarded young midfielders in Europe. But by your reasoning we wouldn't have gone near him? As he's bargain bucket? |

No one is doubting the kid's potential. All we're calling for is to actually go out and buy a class act that will immediately improve us in central midfield. We have so many prospects but It's really gotten to a point where we need to fill the void.

I would sign Mcarthy and another established world class CM if it was up to me. |

Given our current midfield options we will at least need two new faces in there. One arguably world class and one squad player. There is no reason Mccarthy can't be the latter.

People (inc. me) think McCarthy isn't/won't be good enough especially when there are other options out there. I will be the first to admit that Dembele has impressed this season, although I was against signing him. Given we ended up not buying a midfielder last summer, Dembele was a missed opportunity. Definately would have improved our squad in the League this season. Still don't think he is good enough to compete at the highest level for us though. You never know, Spurs might pull off a major magic-trick and get into the European Cup, then we'll all get the chance to see how Dembele fares in about 13 weeks. How are those two topics even related man?
We're not asking for a marquee signing, all we want is a player who's going to be able to actually start matches and make an immediate impact in an area where we've been short for years. Taking a punt on a prospect is one thing, something we often do anyway, but the inferiority of our midfield calls out for more than just a prospect.
Differing views whiskey, get over it. Again, not saying he's not going to be a great player, we just need someone who's a great player already.
