James McCarthy is no where near good enough to play for United. I find it outrageous that this thread was even started. He would in my opinion be a decent at best signing for a team like liverpool? extremely average player. I take it you have seen a lot of him to come to this conclusion? Obviously you could tell he was never going to amount to much when he was holding his own in CM as a sixteen year old in Scotland. Or when he has been the best CM on the pitch in most of his 15 international appearances, hopefully you were able to control your outrage when he dominated Man Citys midfield in last seasons FA Cup final.

I live in Ireland so yes iv seen all of his internationls. ONE of the best of a midfield bunch that have not dominated an international midfield full of full-time pro players for as long as I can remember,so I wouldnt consider that good enough grounds to sign a player for one of the biggest clubs in the world.
I think James will have a very good career dont get me wrong but to be mentioned in the same breath as Gerrard and talked about as the quality of player United should sign is crazy! I think James will have a spell with a mid club team and then bounce around the league with bottom half of the table teams. But look everyone has an opinion, we will see what the experts decide and who signs him this summer and how he does next season?
Also the fact that you would bring in another quality midfielder with him would suggest you know yourself it would be a serious gamble signing him and he would end up a squad member , which I think is something we dont need. I would rather see Nick Powell get game time than bring McCarthy in.

One man doesnt make a team but he has impressed in each of his games and if he can dominate Citys midfield he would be an improvement on anything we have managed for the last 3 years.
As much as I would like Powell to get more game time, he is not a CM. He played off the front man for Crewe and has played most of the under 21 games as either of the front 2.
I think McCarthy would improve us. My only concern over signing him would be the burn out factor, as mentioned, he has been playing 1st team Football since he was 16, so unless he is a freak like Giggsy he may not have another 10+ years in him.

The reason I say I want another proven quality midfield player with him is because we need one in a bad way. I would like Mcarthy to improve his game in a UTD environment and I think the skiy is the limit for the lad. My opinion of course.

we outplayed city on their home pitch last year only for a wrong decision we would have been 3-0 up and the way the game was going we would have went on to score 1 or 2 more so I dont know how you can say that hes played better than a United midfielder has against them in 3 years?
Nick played up front on his own in games because we had no body else left in the u21s squad to do so, we also had Tyler Blacket starting up front in a couple of games and hes a left back?
clearly not going to agree with your opinion on the level that McCarthy is at so im done with this thread! If we do sign the lad I hope he proves me wrong. allt best

That, my friend, is some seriously next level heavy you're laying down for some folks on here.
