I love it when some passion is stoked up. This is the edge we need.
If it was up to me we would sign scweinsteiger and fabregas. That aint gonna happen either. Mccarthy will probably go to Chelsea anyway. We need to 2 CM's in the summer.
I want James Mccarthy at Manchester United. He will be a superstar. Trust me.

Was the some law passed saying only one midfielder could be signed? From the limited amount I've seen of him, Mccarthy could be an ok squad player. Would have had a bigger impact on this season than Ando did, for example.
On Besties comment about going toe to toe with Bayern etc etc, not about Mccarthy but it reminded me of Fletcher. A lot of people on here (waaay back in the day) wanted him gone, yet he went on to repeatedly beast numerous high quality midfields with 'better' players than him in. Not that I'm in anyway relating it to this specific context.

Stew, I reckon many of us are talking past each other here. I'm ALL for getting prospects and taking a punt. But in all honesty we'd all just like to see our midfield sorted out, preferably with someone who can perform on the biggest stage, and preferably someone who's a regular internationl perhaps.
We're all shouting for team Midfield.

Wanyama -Strrotman - Mccarthy- Fellaini Can anyone tell me why is that one is preferred to be signed by us while the other two are rejected. Proven in PL , been good for their team , consistent in what they do and deliver and yet a punt on Strootman but not on the latter.
I am not in the for team or against for McCarthy or Fellaini , just putting out there for peeps to come out with what they think.

Oh I agree. Just because the his name is not marquee yet we cast him off as a 2nd tier wannabe? ? Oh My. No, he's second tier because you can't put him in the same bracket as e. g. Gundogen or Wilshere (young players with massive potential who are already ace). At the moment, McCarthy is, at most, at a level below the players in that group. That's why I said second-at-best tier. He is a wannabe because, again, while he might have potential (the peak of which is really what this argument is about), he hasn't proven anything at a high level yet. Premier League, pretty good. Top end of the Premier League, no. Europe? No. Hence, "wannabe" Or not. Can you really envisage McCarthy battling through a European Cup quarter-final against Bayern Munich? Leading the team in withstanding a seige, a man down, versus Real Madrid in the Last 16? Running the show in the Nou Camp? I can't, so I'd like us to move on and get some real fucking quality into our midfield instead of bargain bucket, second-at-best tier wannabe's. Strangely, Veratti was signed for peanuts from Pescara who are pretty much the Seria A version of Wigan. He did pretty much the above when having an absolute stormer against Barca. He's now one of the most highly regarded young midfielders in Europe. But by your reasoning we wouldn't have gone near him? As he's bargain bucket? Trump buys are trump buys. During 2011-'12 season people were already raving about Veratti before PSG snapped him up. Plus, he was only 19 and he signed from a second division team. They were never going to be able to command a massive fee. It's like saying Powell was bargain bucket - he isn't. It's just circumstance. Would we get McCarthy for less than £ 15 million, maybe. Would we be able to get a better, and more immediate, midfield addition by pushing the boat out another £ 5/10 million? Almost definately. That's where the "bargain bucket" comes from.

I don't mean to dismiss him so strenuously as we bought Phil Jones from Blackburn and Smalling from Fulham but at this present moment in time we're talking about our midfield, a part of the team we've wanted to fill with QUALITY for some time now.
I don't doubt he may have quality but he's not going to compete against the best in the CL is he.
We've already got Kagawa, Jones, Carrick, Powell, Cleverley, Anderson, Giggs (probably) so another (at this moment in time) sub-standard player with potential just isn't going to get us anywhere IMO.

Jay, I think you are right. We need 2 mods this summer. I'd love one to be a Fabergas (tho bizarrely some people don't seem to want him!) but we have room for a prospect too.

I think he means 2 more than us Carb. We're being elevated again. 'High Almighty Ruler' and 'Capitano Master in Chief', are the mooted roles.

How anyone could not want Fabregas is baffling. Absolutely baffling. He's pretty much the signing we could have done with a couple of years ago, but was never going to happen with Barca tie in. the technical gifts of a la Masia raised player combined with a greater directness and power brought from playing in the premier league. Perfect candidate an ideal age. Well maybe not never....

I Doubt Fabregas may want to take up a mod's job and besides don't see how he can do a better job than the one's we have already. Stew are you leaving. + hate to see Bestie and Carbs get more power than they already have ..

I wouldn't be surprised or against seeing an established player and a prospect coming in.
Fellaini's release clause is 23 million and Moyes seems to love him. Even though I think we need a different, more dynamic midfielder, that looks very likely.

Can Fabregas actively disrupt and break-up opposition attacks on or above the half-way line? Can he drive the team forward by himself when the chips are down and the world's against us? Can he take a tackle and not go flying to the turf like he has been shoot with a crossbow?
If yes, sign him first. If not, can we get someone who can do those things before we add to the prettiness of our passing?
