Hearing some murmurs on twitter that he might be a winger, don't shoot the messenger..

Can Fabregas actively disrupt and break-up opposition attacks on or above the half-way line? Can he drive the team forward by himself when the chips are down and the world's against us? Can he take a tackle and not go flying to the turf like he has been shoot with a crossbow? If yes, sign him first. If not, can we get someone who can do those things before we add to the prettiness of our passing? This thread has moved so fast I hadnt even realised I wasnt in the summer one Fuck it, will continue in here. You do somewhat have an obsession with tackling. This as a priority makes no sense, aren't your Jonesy in midfields number 1 fan? From what I remember Cesc was hardly tackle shy, like I said years in premier league kept him apart from the usual Barca tipi-taka-fall-overness. Quite a complete midfielder and the closest we could hope to replace Scholes. Like I said previously theres no law for there being one signing for midfield, . we could do worse than plan beyond Carrick too. but jeez if Fabregas is available he should be number 1.

The obsession stems from dying inside when the likes of Dembele and Toure saunter through our midfield unchallenged. As for Jones, I have no faith we will have him as a central midfielder for realsies. But back on topic in terms of required quality. Fabregas, yes. McCarthy, no.

I think he means 2 more than us Carb. We're being elevated again. 'High Almighty Ruler' and ' Capitano Master in Chief', are the mooted roles. OH Dear Lord No... Bloody Hell No muhaahahha all the power!

Seems like a player Moyes would be interested in. Be disappointed if United weren't in the mix for him. Haven't seen that much of him but has impressed when I've managed to. Be a good addition along with a top class midfielder too. Quite an adaptable player and not exactly swimming with options in the team at the mo, Carrick is the only reliable regular. He is Irish (should be playing for Scotland) and like to see players from there and Britain in the team and important United has that core. Know there is no danger of breaching the league rules with the squad but does he also count as home-grown?

Dont think so, his formative years were in Scotland. He has to have played for 3 seasons in England before his 22nd birthday to qualify as "home grown".
Edit
He signed for Wigan when he was 18, so he should be "home grown".

Thanks, that is a shame that it doesn't count his spell in Scotland- remember when he made his debut was big news as he was only 15.

James McCarthy is no where near good enough to play for United. I find it outrageous that this thread was even started. He would in my opinion be a decent at best signing for a team like liverpool? extremely average player.

He would in my opinion be a decent at best signing for a team like liverpool? extremely average player. Let me tell you this for a start. James Mccarthy did to the Man City midfield in last seasons cup final something that we have not done for years i.e Dominate them. I have watched Mccarthy very closely since he broke into the irish team and I can tell you he has bags and bags of ability and potential. I would like McCarthy to sign as long as we sign another quality midfield player. As someone said on here already, when he signs for spurs and becomes a brilliant player we will all be saying we should have got him. I think he could be a Steven Gerrard type player if he can add goals to his game. I think he has this much potential.
