El Chich - Yeah actually, I think you're right about Tiote. Still, untapped markets and all that. . .

Are people seriously calling the French, German and Dutch leagues untapped???
Newcastle have done well because they have secured players that were better than what they had. Of the players they've signed, only Ben Arfa had done enough to put him on our radar, unfortunately he came with baggage. For proof that Newcastle are looking for a different standard of player look over at Obertan. He was poor with us so we wanted rid of him, Newcastle thought they'd take him. Teams like Newcastle, Everton etc, buy our fringe players, we buy their best.

Hardky untapped markets.
Everyone knew about Ben Arfa, just no one wanted to take a chance on him coz he's the French equivalent of Joey Barton. Till the Barcodes did.
Cabaye was a big part of a Ligue 1 winning team. But has had a few big injuries. Newcastle took a gamble.
Santon was tipped as a big star by Mourinho. But has had a few big injuries. Newcastle took a gamble.
Papiss Cisse was banging in goals in the Bundesliga. Newcastle paid decent money for him.
Demba Ba has the world's dodgiest knees, if Stoke are to be believed, Newcastle took a gamble after he had a great end to last season at West Ham last year.
Tiote is probably the only one who's come from no where, but he was playing Champions League football a few years back with Twente, so he was hardly playing in some footballing backwater.
These are hardly untapped markets. It just goes to show how blinkered the press, and to an extent most British football fans are to anything outside the 'Best League in the World' INC.

As Tatty says, most of their transfers were basically gambles. Fortunately for them they've had a bit of the midas touch about them. Plenty of high risk low cost signings. Things have gone their way this year but who knows if they'll be so lucky next year.

All I mean by 'untapped markets' is that you see people talking all the time about the big potential moves from Spain, sometimes Italy. And the South American countries.
But it seems quite rare these days for big teams to sign players from the likes of France or the Netherlands or even Germany. Just the occasional big move e. g. Benzema

Didnt they get Tiote from Twente in Holland? Newcastle's scouting of Europe of the last 2 years has been brilliant in all accounts. We should be taking pointers. For every Hernandez we have a fair few duds, a few to many. Because picking up United grade footballers is as easy as Newcastle grade ones right? Bellion, Djemba, Kleberson, Obertan, Manucho to name a few arnt even Newcastle Quality let alone United Quality. most of would take Cissie, Tiote, Cabaye so in this case yeah its as easy.

So they are guaranteed to have done as well with us as they have at Newcastle yeah? Given that they would have been expected to fight for the league rather than playing with no pressure to achieve anything other than as high a league position as possible? Really is funny how people automatically compare a mid-table (basically what was expected of Newcastle) teams success in the transfer market with what we should have been doing. Then compare their successes to our failures. EDIT - most would take Cissie, Tiote, Cabaye NOW, after someone else took a gamble on them. If we had bought them and they had flopped alot on here would have been ripping Fergie to shreds for wasting more money on them.

I wouldn't mind Tiote for about 7-10 million though. He looks a beast.

Having a good year at a club like Newcastle doesn't mean you could do it at United. Last summer people were asking if we should sign Joey fucking Barton because of last season's performances. Would he have made a difference to us? And Liverpool signed Carroll based on the way he'd been playing for Newcastle. That work out well?

i'm a bit surprised no-ones mentioned cisse. his goal at the weekend was brilliant. we've seen him score a few world class goals for the mags now, i'm not so sure it's a fluke. looks a very good player, although with rooney, welbs and chico he'd perhaps not get a start as often as he'd like.
early days yet but the evidence is stacking up that he's very good.

Dembele is good.
As I keep saying is good enough for manchester united? I don't think so. We Manchester United European giants, we need to bring in world class players if were to get close to Madrid and Barcelona.
Fans have lowered there standard of what type of player they'd like to see, thats acceptable as fans have become desperate for some sort of a midfielder.
